Pet Shop Boys Night on BBC Four?

#1 Post by SynthMan Wales » Sun 01 Jul 2018, 5:11 pm

I very much enjoyed Duran Duran Night on BBC Four last Friday evening. I wonder if the Beeb would ever consider doing something for PSB in a similar vein?

PSB have such a rich visual archive for a band (a film, a recorded ballet, live tours), they would lend themselves to such an evening. After all, has a band ever been as BBC Four across their entire career as PSB?

A new documentary would be welcome too, especially one in a similar vein to the South Bank Show one.

What do other people think?

They did do something along these lines around the time of promoting the Yes album. Neil and Chris were interviewed regarding their various appearances on Top of the Pops and other BBC programmes like Wogan. I believe it was shown in full in Australia and imaginatively called 'Pet Shop Boys at the BBC' There were/are clips of this on youtube. That all said, it would be great to get a comprehensive special on PSBs by the BBC similar to the Duran Duran documentary.
Do you know the difference between the two genders..?

Not sure I'd like to hear again Neil recalling how they met, "and the rest is history".Documentaries and interviews and reissues have been pretty exhaustive now. Having said that, "Exhaustive" could be a good title for such a documentary, or even for the planned final box set!
"It was a dark and stormy night."
"You know what's wrong with your stories? They lack subtlety."
"It was a sort of dark and kind of stormy night."

I think ‘A Life in Pop’ pretty much covers everything. That’s pretty comprehensive. We don’t need any more docs!

Possibly guilty of not quite being on topic so please move this if required. But just to point out TOTP '86 is on in Friday (Tomorrow). Expect it to start with the best electronic act ever.

And it's on Sky Arts in 10 minutes!
