Piano Solo, I want a Dog (Introspective)

#1 Post by Incandescent » Thu 04 Jul 2019, 11:25 am

Hello,

I don't know if this has ever been answered. If so then I apologise.

The piano solo durning I want a dog is something very special indeed. Do we know if it was Chris that came up with and recorded it himself?

Any info would be great!

(From memory) according to the sleeve credits it’s Josh Milan, whom I assume is an associate of Frankie Knuckles or a session player he brought in. I once wrote to the publisher for the sheet music for the piano solo to no avail.

Update: I found some information on Josh Milan, see https://www.traxsource.com/artist/35544/josh-milan and https://www.discogs.com/artist/13815-Josh-Milan

I'll have to check but in the original credits I believe he was credited as "John Poppo". A mistake perhaps.

EDIT: my mistake. John Poppo is credited as mix engineer, and the piano player is credited as Josh Milian.

I wonder how technical is is to play. I guess even for pro it might be darn tricky but I have no idea really.
Have the boys played this track live? (seen them live a dozen or so times but cant recall this track being played).
Obviously nice to see Chris showing off by playing this!

I guess it's difficult to perform it live. If I remember correctly it's the only track from Introspective that hasn't yet been performed live.

This is a fully improvised, blues-style piano solo, and it makes no sense trying to replicate it, nor notate it to sheet music. For any pianists skilled in blues, this style of solo is pretty easy, btw.
