Create a "Dreamworld" singles-only setlist!

#1 Post by West End Boy » Mon 18 Nov 2019, 9:22 pm

Hello everybody,

this is it - the inevitable "Dreamland Tour Setlist" thread. This time around, thinking of a potential setlist is slightly easier though, because we know that the boys are only going to play songs that were released as singles.

So in this thread I'm asking you to come up with a 22-song setlist that you would like to see them perform. I think it's safe to assume that it will be a mixture of imperial hits such as "Go West", 2nd tier hits such as "Can you forgive her?" and rather obscure singles (at least as far as the broader public is concerned) like "Leaving". I guess 22 songs seems reasonable - maybe they'll play more songs if they again decide to do mash-ups and suchlike (which seems somewhat likely).

So here's my idea of what a realistic GH set could look like:

Act 0: Opening

1. Minimal

Act 1: Political section

2. Dreamland
3. Suburbia
4. How can you expect to be taken seriously?
5. I'm with stupid

Act 2: Party

6. Domino dancing
7. Paninaro 95
8. Love etc
9. Flamboyant
10. Can you forgive her?

Act 3: Melancholy / ballad section

11. A red letter day
12. I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more
13. Rent
14. Memory of the future

Act 4: The hits

15. Heart
16. Go West
17. The Pop Kids
18. Always on my mind
19. West End Girls

Encore 1: This is the end / you'll get over it

20. To step aside
21. It's alright

Encore 2: Triumphant return

22. It's a sin

Which isn’t to say that I don’t think that sounds like a good list. To step aside! Minimal! Yes please.

It will be interesting how they view the Greatest Hits. Will it be the better charting songs in the UK and/or around the world, fan favourites of their favourites?

If it goes on chart positions in the UK, theres going to be be no Dreamland or anything after 2010.

Can‘t imagine them going by chart positions. Sure, imperial hits will dominate the setlist, but there will be the occasional lesser-known single and fan favorite in there. Maybe my setlist is a bit too ambitious in that regard though.

    Okay this sounds fun.
The choice has to include both songs that we like and ones that work well live.
I quite like Minimal and Before but excluded them because I think other tracks would go over better.

Here's my choice out of the 66 singles mentioned on Wikipedia:

    1. Dreamland
    2. Flamboyant
    3. So Hard
    4. Domino Dancing
    5. Where the Streets Have No Name
    6. Paninaro
    7. What I Done to Deserve This?
    8. Se A Vida E
    9. Did You See Me Coming?
    10. Yesterday When I Was Mad
    11. Can You Forgive Her?
    12. The Pop Kids
    13. Suburbia
    14. Go West
    15. Rent
    16. Always On My Mind
    17. Opportunities
    18. Left To My Own Devices
    19. Love Is A Bourgeois Construct
    20. It's A Sin

    (Encore)
    21. Burning The Heather
    22. West End Girls

I like the setlists posted. They could really do more mash ups, and alternate versions either new or returning. Drunk acoustic is pretty good for instance.

    Very difficult...

    MUST (for me):

    1 West End Girls
    2 It´s a sin
    3 Heart
    4 Go West
    5 Always on my mind
    6 Suburbia
    7 Se a vida e
    8 New York City boy
    9 Rent
    10 Domino Dancing
11 What have I done to deserve this?
12 Where the streets have no name
    13 Love etc.
    14 Opportunities
15 Left to my own devices
(from my point ov view, these 15 songs are known by the most people)

    Hopefully:

    16 Vocal
    17 So hard
    18 A red letter day
    19 The Pop Kids
    20 Leaving
    21 Dreamland

    Encore:

    22 Being Boring

If they include all top 10 hits they have to squeeze Somewhere in.
