Subshine (offshoot from former PSB support act Lorraine)

#1 Post by retrofuturist »

Greetings,

Yesterday I remembered the band Lorraine, who at one point were a support act for Pet Shop Boys. They were best known at the time for their mid-2000s UK Top 30 hit, "I Feel It". Then they changed their name to Blackroom, released a couple of low key albums and then faded into obscurity.

Well, it turns out that afterwards, vocalist Ole Gunnar Gundersen went solo under the name Subshine and over the last few years in particular, he's really upped the ante and started making some absolutely incredible music. I'll share a few songs he's released recently, which are each amazing in their own way.

The first is the most recent track, and sounds very much like 21st century New Order - equal parts Superheated and Here To Stay. It's called "Different Light".

The most Pet Shop Boys sounding of the recent outings is an impressive cover of Bjork's "Unravel"...

Lastly, the most awe-inspiring incredible track of the lot is this masterpiece on the nature of the human condition entitled "Living Like It's Real"...

Anyway, I just wanted to share those, and see whether anyone knows of and is interested in either Subshine, or the earlier Lorraine and Blackroom incarnations.

I bought a couple of Lorraine singles when they first came on the scene. I always thought they were a band that had potential to make a great pop album. I love the version of the Psychedelic Furs’s Heaven, in fact I probably prefer it to the original. So thanks for this, I’ll definitely be giving his stuff a listen.

Excellent share! Thanks. I have and love the Blackroom album "Lighthouse". The extended mix of Control is huge. Will check out this more recent stuff.
