What do you think about the new ABBA songs

The ballad "I Still Have Faith In You" is pretty lame in my opinion. But I love the 2nd new song "Don't shut me down". Pure Abba classic. And I think this is a perfect song for an PSB Remix.

I think "I Still Have Faith In You" is just there for its nostaglia of ABBA's history, like in the video. On the other side, "Don't Shut Me Down" is in the good old style.

All in all, it seems a bit surreal that they release music after nearly 40 years and didn't change anything in style and production.

The planned concerts in London with their avatars a very futuristic, I think. Hopefully, some other band will adopt the idea.

I'm really enjoying the new songs, just rather sorry that my Dad (who primarily liked classical music and G and S) didn't live long enough to hear the new material as he was fond of Abba too.

Don't Shut Me Down is tremendous, loaded with melody, poignancy, overwrought drama, passion, melancholia, and energy - all those things we loved about ABBA in the first place. Lyrically, there are some belting moments. Most of all, it's a song - you know, those things that used to be ubiquitous and are now something of an endangered species. I like the fact they came back with something that sounds like their unreleased lead single from a 1983 album that never happened. It's a complete earworm.

Of course, there's an element of self-parody and pastiche about all of this, but had this track been released 40 years ago it would have been another huge hit. ABBA always had their own sound, so I'm not sure there's much to be gained by trying to be "contemporary" especially as their style of songwriting is largely extinct. They're in their 70s - if they have a hit, it'll be because of nostalgia/huge media, not because they are cutting edge.

The other track is forgettable.

It just gets better and better, Little Boots has just announced she’ll be on Keyboards and backing vocals for the live shows.

I get what you’re saying but had they released this in 1983 it would have bombed. Their last actual release in the uk barely troubled the top 30. By 1983 their sound was “old”. Music had moved on.

It’ll be huge now. Literally the biggest selling single and album of the year. It’s almost effortless.

I think just like they did with Disco at the end of the 70s, they Would’ve tried to compete and put their own spin on the scene at the time. You can definitely see a little bit of that going on with the song I am the city.

Awful music. They always sound like a perfect soundtrack to some party in a nursing home. Painfully old-fashioned.

Both songs are earworms for me, are humming them all day. Love them. And Personally I like it that they stuck to their own style. Looking forward tothe album too.

When the new songs first came out I didn't agree that ''Don't Shut me Down'' was the better song as many review stated. The it just grew and grew and grew on me to become one of my favourite songs of any artist ever! I've watched loads of the YouTube reaction videos which at least gives some feeling of grooving along to it with some company! Just a brilliant song, arrangement and production. I've booked for the first night of the ''live'' experience next year.
''I Still have Faith in You'' funnily enough is a little overblown for me as much as I like a big sound....
