Judith Durham of The Seekers passes.

#1 Post by gregf »

Australian is a midling player in the arts, but one musical band was stratospheric - The Seekers.

Judith Durham singer for the Seekers has passed away today and we are full of bitter sweet memories.

Morningtown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-RkC6MYT2E

I have driven down to Morningtown, albeit, not on the train.

It’s the swinging 60s’ you’re in London, you’re bigger than the Beatles, and your lead singer packs it in to be a jazz singer.

And your final song is a beautiful Russian ballad.

Tonight the carnival is over.

Many of these songs were co-written by Tom Springfield, brother of Dusty Springfield who worked with PSB.
That story here ...

It was interesting seeing the effect on society here. All generations children, parents and grand parents were following them. I think a lot like what was happening in UK with The Beatles. Traveling to England in the 60's became a thing.

It was a national shock when they broke up. Final song at final concert The Carnival is over at Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne

Sorry, that’s Georgie Girl.

The final concert, The Carnival is Over, not the best quality sound unfortunately.

No one understood why they were breaking up. Judith didn't understand how big they were and wanted to get established as a jazz singer and get married by 25 because that was how it was then. The greatest lost opportunity in the history of music.

I will try and get the full Australian Story video. ;-)
