Instrumental albums

#1 Post by telys »

Just wondering which of PSB albums have been released in instrumental versions
I know about:
Elysium - special edition of the album release
Hotspot - special edition of the album release
Electric - some kind of special release
Yes - was it only on a vinyl extremely limited edition?
Fundamental? - Geowayne lists instrumental versions "as official but unreleased", are they available somewhere despite this
Any other?

TBH: those are the only ones I know of... The Yes instrumentals were on the Yes vinyl factory box set and as for Fundamental... someone posted something about this here on this forum a while ago:

Apparently there's some kind of instrumental version of Behaviour out there as well. Questionable legitimacy though.

"I'm with stupid" and "Psychological" were released - the former as part of one of the digital bundles, the latter on a promo 12"

Fundamental - official instrumentals leaked about 4 years ago. Rumour is that these came from an in-house Parlophone CD around the time the Further Listening album was being put together.

Super - is the odd one out as of now, no leaks.

This might sound very sad, but I've made my own AI instrumental versions of every PSB album using a program called Gaudio Studio. Some of them sound great (the tracks with less instrumentation) but some sound terrible. Funny little experiment though. Can you forgive her is a track I've always wanted as an instrumental and my AI version isn't too bad. Give it a go. Great program.
The future is the present now. Music must be played.

One of my great hopes is that we get instrumental versions of all of their studio albums before they call it a day.

Fundamental Instrumental (out there but not officially released)
Yes Instrumental (On Vinyl only as the Vinyl factory boxset) but cd-rs exist
Elysium Instrumental (Officially realeased 2cd version)
Electric Instrumental (out there but not officially released) cd-rs exist
Hotspot Instrumental (Officially released as the 2cd edition)

Seen a Behaviour Instrumental but it's clearly a boot.

Thanks for sharing this - it's quite amazing. Been listening to the isolated drums, bass, vocals, etc. for some of the Very tracks. Yeah, it's not amazing quality, but still fascinating to hear the parts in isolation, noticing little details or vocal harmonies that aren't as apparent in the full mix.

Fundamental "out there", does that mean any of the versions found on YT or "out there" meaning more obscure sites which we shouldn't mention here?

Electric, yep, I have those instrumentals, they were available somewhere a couple of years ago.

I had a listen to Hotspot instrumental the other day and the soundscape is amazing, even You Are The One and Wedding in Berlin fit , with lyrics they are not so bareable. I guess that's was N&C's perspective. Monkey Business is actuall, IMHO, the instrumental that doesn't really fit with the others.

Interestingly enough, the revolution in AI could enable us to create our own instrumental versions of albums. We'll, when I say "us" I don't include myself as I've only just abandoned Windows 7

Fundamental instrumental was sent to me a few years back. I think from someone on here.

they're good enough for me, and can be used for remixes.

Just resurrecting this thread to mention Gaudio Studio again - it's an amazing AI tool that splits tracks into their component parts - guitar, piano, vocals, etc. Not perfect quality by any means, but really interesting. I'm finding it particularly interesting for Nonetheless. I uploaded Bullet For Narcissus, and lo and be hold, there's a lovely piano section running through the whole track with a lot more than just single block chords, and it's barely if at all audible within the mix. Worth a listen.
