Trevor Horn comment about PSB on SDE site

Trevor Horn has a new album out called Echoes – Ancient and Modern and did an interview with Paul over at the SDE site:

The bit about the Pet Shop Boys comes towards the end when Paul asks:

You did some great work with the Pet Shop Boys. You seemed to get along really well with them. If they came back and said, “Do you want to do another album?”…

Oh, yeah, I’d do them. With the Pet Shop Boys it’s an excuse to hang out with them. They’re so funny and unusual.

Neil Tennant would have been good for this record.

He was one of the early ones that I asked. He won’t do anything that’s associated with reissues or anything from the past. Not interested, unfortunately! I can’t blame him. They’re very nice because they came to the Roundhouse benefit and played ‘It’s Alright’ and ‘Left to My Own Devices’ and they were really good.

That settles the matter regarding any forthcoming PSB reissues...
We had the Further Listening project and the SMASH compilation lately, but I guess we should not expect anything from now on.
For example, rare remixes only emerge when the artist behind them (or a record company) decides to release them (Arther Baker, Frankie Knuckles, Ian Levine, etc.). We will probably never get that directly on a PSB release...

It's not fair, it's just a remix and a kind of tribute for PSB. I don't think it's not the same.

By the way, Rick Astley is singing of the album. So Rick Astley produced by Trevor Horn. It's time for PSB to be produced by Stock Aitken and Waterman. In fact, I'd like to see something written but S/A/W and Pet Shop Boys (the five people together). it's not going to happen but it would be nice.

Well, they're not a nostalgia act. I guess that's what it's about.
Opportunities in a commercial was not about 80's nostalgia.
Sleaford Mods covering West End girls neither.
When they've released tracks written in the early days (New Boy, Powerful Friend) it was always treated as any other track they'd written. If it's in the vaults the tune doesn't age.
AC/DC's last record was co-written by Malcolm even though he's dead, Angus went through the vaults if ideas, riffs and licks of his brother and created songs.
So for PSB a song written and demoed in 1983 is just as current as anything else. Sometimes it's a pity since I long for the Bobby O-recordings, it's one of the great "lost albums" in music history.
