OMD most recent album

#1 Post by telys »

Just had a listen to Kleptocracy from OMD's latest album Bauhaus Staircase. Short song but really good. Last time I was into OMD was during Sugar Tax era. Well, Enola Gay was always a favourite tune.

The new album is superb, however, do not like "Bauhaus Staircase", amazed it was chosen as lead single, the only other track I don't like ids "Slow Train", apart from that a really impressive album.

I like the other tracks I've heard so far better than Bauhaus Staircase but I understand why they chose that song as lead single. It's more commercial than other tracks.

I've been wanting to write here about the Bauhaus Staircase album and OMD themselves. I loved their singles when I was growing up but became a born again fan when a friend bought me a used copy of Organisation for my birthday. I've enjoyed their 21st century albums a whole lot, starting especially with English Electric, and Bauhaus Staircase feels like a pinnacle album for them.

I'm just always surprised their name isn't mentioned more often by PSB fans. There are enough parallels and shared sensibilities, I haven't parsed out why New Order and Depeche Mode (both of whom I also have a lot of love for) get cited so much more often.

In any case, I do recommend a listen to Bauhaus Staircase. A good balance of boppers and ballads. "Verushcka" is one of the latter and has PSB vibes.

True, remember when Pandora's Box came out in '91. So much like PSB. Not only the music but also the style of lyrics. Used to love that track. Perhaps I still do.

Well, OMD has always had good b-sides and also released b-side compilation. There are a few paralels as we can see.

Their comeback albums - History Of Modern, English Electric, Punishment Of Luxury and Bauhaus Staircase have been utterly magnificent. History Of Modern in particular is exactly the sort of album Kraftwerk should be making

I agree, all their albums since their return have been terrific. Many, many top-notch tracks. Got to see them live once in that time, too, and they put on a great show.

I hadn't played Sugar Tax much before; definitely an overlap in sound with PSB in "Pandora's box" and other tracks there!

Well, glad to confirm I'm not the only PSB fan with time for OMD. ImageImage

I think they dared to do on f i Anthropocene something that PSB never did. Perhaps it's too much Kraftwerkish (I get vibes from song on Electronic's Raise The Pressure which were co-written by Karl Bartos).

And it's cool to see Andy McCluskey swingin the bass in concerts. Oh, imagine Neil with an electric guitar.*

*Yes, I don't believe much in Neil's pop vs rock pseudo-ideas.

And OMD's videos are quite cool as well. In them they go daftpunkish. But we have to remember OMD were originators.

I just bought: Sugar Tax, Liberator and Universal for the total sum of about 1£. So far I'm unfortunately unimpressed by the songs.
