Radio 2 Top 30 PSB countdown

#1 Post by Roundhead General »

Available to listen to now on BBC sounds (UK only I would imagine)
Even though I should imagine it'll be pretty easy to guess the top spots it'll still be interesting to see what the public think are their best songs. And there's already and interesting non single song at number 30!

Mark Goodier will count down Your Ultimate Pet Shop Boys Songs in a special programme, available on BBC Sounds from Monday 19 August 2024, and broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday 24 August 2024.

Pet Shop Boys are among our all-star line up for this year's Radio 2 In The Park, headlining in Preston on Sunday 8 September. To mark the occasion, we asked you to pick your favourites from the electronic duo's most loved tracks over the last 40 years.

As they get ready for their live headline performance at Radio 2 In The Park in Preston this September, Mark Goodier presents a Top 30 countdown of the duo's biggest songs, as voted for by the listeners.

Mark Goodier with a bonus playlist packed with 20 of the duo's songs back to back, all of which just missed out on a place in the coveted Top 30, as voted for by the Radio 2 listeners.

Can't argue too much with the Top 30, though one song in particular is slightly lower than I expected. Listening to them played back to back, you can both see why some people hate them  and why only a Top 30 of The Beatles could eclipse this. It is an incredible, relentless catalogue of pop music.

Great to see the full 40 years complimented with the first and last releases making the top 30.

Also 4 album tracks showing just how strong some of their unreleased material is. Really pleased the The Way it Used to Be, and Kings Cross got played. Shopping is probably the one surprise for me on the list.

Should add that Goodier plays the '95 versions of both In the Night and Paninaro, which was disappointing.

this shows how the Stuart Price era doesnt count as much

Actually has 6 songs, and 2 of them arent singles, and I miss It Couldnt Happen Here

I love A New Bohemia like a Release song on an alternate universe right in between Birthday Boy and London, and I know they have to promote things so they included their last single around there, its the BBC camon guys, but honestly would you choose A New Bohemia over songs that arent there like I Want To Wake Up, I Want a Dog, My October Symphony, The Theatre, It Always Comes as a Surprise, IDKWYWBICGA or Home & Dry ? to say just a few ... I mean at best A New Bohemia in my list is 153 more or less

Yes, ICHH wasn't on the list you could vote for, which was odd. Actually obviously represents the imperial phase but notwithstanding its popular appeal, the songs and production are just so strong.

That is peak Chris Lowe! We should have known he would be on Team Marmite.

Well, not a lot of surprises in there, really. But nice of the Beeb to run this, and put it out on today of all days. They've definitely got some fans in the back office.
For your own good, call me tonight.
