A few minutes ago, Pet Shop Boys were announced in Chilean TV to take part in the upcoming Festival de Viña del Mar, February 2026.
The event will run from Sunday 22 to Friday 27, and it's a big deal locally. The buzz is huge around international bands, so I expect lots of attention drawn to PSB.
This festival it's different to what you'd expect, not like the ones you are used to go in EU or US. It's broadcasted (tv, radio, online), includes two music contests, awards (called "the seagull", Viña del Mar is a seaside town) and presenters, a different comedian every night, and the audience has a name: The Monster... As Chilean, I have a hard time explaining what it means to our culture haha , it's really something, even for the people that don't like it.
I'm surprised and excited about this announcement. This country loooves PSB

Audience of Viña del Mar 2025
Here are the most recent and concrete metrics available, mostly from Chilean TV ratings:
1. Television ratings in Chile
The average TV rating for the first three nights (Kantar IBOPE Media) was 28.7 points.
The broadcaster Mega projected this corresponds to an estimated 8.2 million viewers across those nights.
Night 1: 27.2 rating points, 70.3% share.
Night 2 (the most-watched): 31.5 rating points.
Night 4: 21.9 rating points.
Whole festival (6 nights): average rating of 25.7 points.
2. Peak audience moments
One of the highest peaks occurred during Myriam Hernández’s presentation, reaching 47.1 rating points around 23:00 (after receiving the Gaviota de Platino).
On Night 1, comedian George Harris reached approximately 38 rating points at peak.
3. Audience share
Night 1: 70.3% share of Chilean broadcast TV.
Night 3: 76.5% share — meaning over three-quarters of all people watching television in Chile at that moment were watching Viña 2025.
Interpretation
Extremely high national impact:
Ratings between 25–30 points are very strong for Chilean television, confirming that Viña remains one of the most-watched events in the country.
Large national reach:
With an estimated 8.2 million Chilean viewers over the first nights, the festival still dominates local TV.
Significant symbolic international reach:
The “250 million viewers” figure should be read as a high-level estimate of potential global exposure rather than literal annual viewers — but it shows how culturally prominent the festival is across Latin America and beyond.
