Robbie Williams announces new single
Plus there's an album on the way

Robbie Williams will release brand new single 'Rudebox' On September 4.

It is the first single to be taken from his as-yet-untitled new album, the follow up to 2005's 'Intensive Care'.

In a statement Robbie explained the meaning of the title: "'Rudebox' is loads of different things, sometimes it could be a vibe delivered in a spaceship direct to the studio, sometimes it's a really nasty girl dancing scantily clad, or sometimes it's a giant soundsystem...Sometimes it's actually just a box that tell you to f*** off too."

The forthcoming album, which will be his seventh studio LP, is set to feature collaborations with Madonna producer William Orbit and The Pet Shop Boys who previously collaborated with Williams on his 1998 single 'No Regrets'.

Robbie Williams returns to business with the release of a brand new single ‘RUDEBOX’ on September 4th on EMI Records. ‘RUDEBOX’ is the first single to be taken from his forthcoming new studio album, which will follow soon after. ‘RUDEBOX’ is a nasty, dirty, bass infused electro-funk-pop monster produced and written with fellow Stoke On Trent natives/compadres Soul Mekanik aka Danny Spencer & Kelvin Andrews.

“RUDEBOX is wonky pop music, influenced by the underground,” says Andrews, “It was just three lads from Stoke having fun in the studio, no rules and no knobheads.”
Forged around a sample from Sly & Robbie’s seminal ‘Boops (Here To Go)’ and twisted around his own unique visceral lyrical stylings, the result is the sound of our Rob jamming the electro-boogaloo on a bustling New York street corner in 1983. The sound is unmistakably fresh, and unmistakably Robbie Williams! It could be no other.

‘RUDEBOX’ sets the tone for the album which as previously reported also see’s Robbie collaborating with the likes of The Pet Shop Boys, William Orbit and Mark Ronson and a host of others, on both new original compositions and covers of some of his favourite tracks. This is perhaps the most definitive Robbie Williams opus to date, where his truest personal and musical inspirations collide to create an intimate and explorative sound that will surprise some, but after eight albums, this here is the sound of Robert Peter Williams, born 1974 in Stoke On Trent, UK.

“They might say its “dance” or it’s “electro” but it’s just what I like! It started off as a busman’s holiday this time around, but it’s become something on which I’ve found myself. I was just doing my YTS up till now,” he adds.

‘RUDEBOX’ has begun to blaze a trail of its own right on dancefloors across the world, with early mixes and dubs from the likes of Soul Mekanik, Chicken Lips & Riton already receiving support from the likes of Pete Tong (Radio1), James Hyman (XFM), and DJ luminaries as broad as Sasha, John Digweed, Trevor Jackson, Erol Alkan, Boris Dlugosch & Sarah Main to name but a handful. The initial white-label release has already charted in the highly respected Buzz, Cool Cuts & Zzub club charts and continues to grow on a daily basis.

RW is in the midst of his record-breaking ‘Close Encounters’ World tour that hits the UK in September.

They did 2 songs, one brand new and a cover. The cover is supposed to be We're The Pet Shop Boys.

ROBBIE Williams is either a very brave or a very foolish man.

The singer is risking the wrath of Madonna's husband Guy Ritchie by raking over the past on a track on his controversial new album.

Both dated leggy TV presenter Tania Strecker - Ritchie before he met Madonna and the Robster after the film director ditched her.

Now Robbie has plundered his own relationship with Tania for material on his experimental album Rudebox74, to be released later this year - but then he seems to have gone further.

Music industry insiders tell us the track She's Madonna is based on an alleged conversation Guy had with Tania when he left her.

According to her version of events, the man behind hit movies Lock, Stock and Snatch ended their romance with the words: "Look, you know I really love you, but she's Madonna."

Our man behind the mixing desk reveals: "It seems Robbie always had this conversation in the back of his mind for a song.

"Probably without realising the subject matter behind the song, Madge gave She's Madonna the thumbs-up when Robbie personally played it to her at her London home earlier this summer.

"No doubt he'll be keeping his fingers crossed that she'll agree to appear in the video when it's a single early next year." The track - a duet with Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys - is already being described as a pop masterpiece.

When unlucky-in-love Robbie, 32, dated Tania back in 2000 it looked as if he'd finally found someone he wanted to settle down with. But he ended the romance after four months because of the stress that it was causing him.

When Ritchie dated the 6ft blonde earlier she described him as the "love of her life" and was devastated when he ditched her for the Queen of Pop.

She said at the time: "Guy knew the best of me and the worst of me, and we still ended up becoming lovers. And then, it didn't work out.

"I always knew I wasn't as important to Guy as his career. He is great, but he needs a very strong woman to get through to him. But it's not so much he's Madonna's match as she's his."

A source adds: "Guy's not going to be happy that all this is being dredged up again. Although everyone concerned has moved on, it's a bit out of order that Robbie has used it as the basis for one of his songs. Surely he has enough stuff to write about."

Robbie's electro-pop album, due for release at the end of September, is his most experimental to date. Rudebox had its first official airplay today, although Radio 1's Scott Mills broke the embargo and played it on Friday.

The track - being released on September 4 - has been given the thumbs-up by fans who have heard it.

As with a lot of Robbie's material, it has references to sex and drugs. But somehow we doubt if Mr Ritchie will be dashing out to buy a copy.
