I have a photo of me eating a Mars in batter last November in an Edinburgh chippie (they're impossible to find in the south of England - Mars in batter, that is, not Edinburgh chippies. Then again....).

It was the first time I had one. And the last.

(I was rather more taken with the delicious haggis I had in the same chippie)

While in Edinburgh a couple of years ago I was told that Cardiac arrest and other heart related illnesses is one of the most common causes of death in Scotland, funnily enough the guy told me this just after having mentioned deep-fried Mars bars. I DO wonder why

oh and I quite liked the haggis, pretty much as the Swedish Pölsa

I've never actually tried pölsa. Out of personal reasons. The thought of what it actaully is... But I guess I'll have to try it soon. The restaurant business appreciates when their students have a taste of everything they make. By some reason...

I'm really starting to love cheese sausages in batter.
My mum used to always make me bread and milk which I love ie brea torn up in warm milk with sugar - it's brilliant, amd if there was a baby rusk here I'd probably eat it 'cos I always liked them.
People always look at me strangely when I talk about eating French Toast as a savoury because here in OZ it's a sweet thing but I never eat it like that.

Niall- My great grandmother used to do that with old Zimmel rolls- only in Wisconsin you would split the roll in half, pour fresh cream over it and then sift some sugar on the top. This after eating some form of sausage.

ANd we wonder in my family at how everyone has died of heart failure, heart congestion or, in the case of my great grandfather, the mythical "exploding heart".
