There is a problem with that : it means anyone can shut down a political discussion
they are losing by initiating personal warfare.

I think that in a political thread, the person initiating personal remarks,
should be .... given a holiday. But the others, should be free to discuss.

If you fail to adequately deal with that solitary troublemaker, then that's hardly our fault, is it?

Now I'm sorry if that seems like a criticism, I'm normally loath to criticise because it's such a gauche thing to do and because I know the admin and mods have a hard job (as well as lives outside this forum), but there's only one individual in these discussions who ever attempts to stifle debate by ranting like a maniac.

There isn't always one person, there's nearly always more than that.

I apologise in advance, but I am not going to keep on warning people ad nauseum because as you rightly said, we all have a life outside of the forum and I personally don't wish to spend all day on here keeping an eye on political threads that I *know* as soon as they are created will eventually turn into slanging matches. Enough of my own free time is given over to the forum for many other duties without having to baby sit such predictable political threads at all hours of the day. Besides which, even if I do pick out a troublemaker and warn them individually, I am more often than not ignored, then we're into the territory of 'he/she should be banned' when the insults continue and I'd rather not have to face going down that road more than is absolutely necessary.

If you want to talk politics in here then you might want to air your own feelings of disappointment when the insults start, applying pressure to those who are responsible for spoiling the thread.

To those who do get personal in these threads, just step back for a few seconds and think about it before you rattle off an insulting reply - you will be responsible for the locking of the thread and your fellow users who are posting responsibly are the ones who suffer.

Why would I deny them? You socialists caused the Holocaust. Hitler called his party "German national socialist worker's party." Hitler despised capitalism as much as Marx and Stalin. Capitalism is about decentralization that prevents totalitarianism but socialism is all about centralized control of means of production and thus power. So yes, I wouldn't be surpised if you denied the Holocaust.

Do you think there might be something to be said for not being quite so partisan?

I'm not a socialist. VERY far from it, in fact. I vote Conservative and consider myself quite right-wing in a British political sense.

National Socialism is about 'in groups' and 'out groups', the people as oppossed to the others, members of the in group are tied together by so called imagined 'blood lines' - e'g 'Nordicist band Blood and Honour. True socialism is about the emanciapation of the Intertnational working class where it is your relationship to the means of production - exploiter and exploited. True socialists can see a commonality between their conditions in Newcastle, England for example and those conidtions faced by Peruvian coffee pickers and do not seek to explain their problems away by demonising what they consider to be external groups such as the Jews in Nazi Germany or immigrants and trade unionists in Thatcher's Britain.....but you know this already Ali

Hitler added the "socialist" part just as a trick to get the working class vote.

He hated socialists, very similarly to you Ali.
