It's too early to say for sure, but I do think Yes probably has the edge because of the slightly higher ratio of stompers.

For me 7 means good and 6 is already average.
I don't mind average really - anything is better than bad, and most people's half-decent albums are usually a couple of really great tracks, a few middling average and a couple of stinkers. Legacy certainly falls in the latter category.

It's almost trying to be This Must Be The Place I Waited Years To Leave for the middle ages, but with all the evocative pathos and beauty replaced by ponderous pretension and a hammy set of lyrics that would give Pinky & Perky a run for their bacon. At the moment, certainly, it's in my top 10 most hated PSB, which is a real shame as, in the main it has the type of lower-register Neil vocal that I always prefer for the slower numbers, rich and breathy, kind of wintry - think Birthday Boy is Dreaming Of The Queen.

But, FWIW, this would be my Very marks outta ten:

1. CAN YOU FORGIVE HER - 9
2. I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing 8
3. LIBERATION - 6
4. ADPOV - 7.5
5. DREAMING OF THE QUEEN - 8.5
6. Yesterday, when I was mad - 7.5
7. THE THEATRE - 9
8. 1&1M5 - 7
9. TO SPEAK IS A SIN - 7
10. YOUNG OFFENDER - 8
11. ONE IN A MILLION - 8
12. GO WEST - 7

Do you think "Love etc" is a good song to be played on the stage?. I mean, a strong track to make a good performance in front of general public.

Yeah I do. The verses are nice if unremarkable. Something about "where the sun doesn't shine" in the first - it's all very low-key, with a treated Neil vocal over the heavily percussive swing beat layered with a nice slightly tinny synth line that sounds slightly seedy and reminds me of Soft Cell or even (Gasp! Shock! Horror! - let's get this out of the way right now) ...dare I say their name... Erasure.

But it's all so understated and then you've got that great alpha male chorus - it really is very rousing and extremely catchy. If I could only understand exactly what they are singing I'd have the lyrics firmly tattooed on the brain already.

Okay, you said that its too early to compare Fundamental and Yes, however can you compare the two occasions when you firstly listened to the albums?

(Does Yes sound better than Fundamental on first listen, or visa versa)

your rate of very seems really better than the one of yes, but i think one in a million is the weakest track on very, being too simple in his melody, though being up tempo.

I remember popjustice saying taxi for twentieth century, while when i listened to it for the first time i was happy because i found it extraordinary, beautiful and so romantic with the incredible sound in the background and the end of the song with this kind of dreamy thing, so beautiful.

I thought yes would be more like very, but it seems very half uptempo and downtempo

I wonder if the melody on yes are as good as the one we can find on fundamental, and if the sounds are futuristic as was very at the time ?

Erm, that's slightly difficult as the circumstances of where I was when I first heard Fundamental are completely different.

Oh, go on then, for Fundy, I'd been spending some time in Brussels, for Valentine's Day week, and we didn't put it on until my fella and I had come back from a very long night's clubbing at La Demence @ Fuse (best club in the city by far) and erm, fuelled by a rather strong intake of something mentioned in Postscript, we kinda got distracted and I think we got bored listening to it after I'm With Stupid.

I'm really surprised to hear that there are some badly misjudged & naff lyrics... are these excusable in any way in the context of each song? I mean, if you'd told me the 'considered tacky.... Issey Miyake' lyric before I'd hear Flamboyant, I'd have thought that was naff, but in the context of the song it acts as a kind of summing up of the pretensions that song is about.

Are the lines that have made you cringe on Yes excusable in a similar way?

Or are they fat-lecherous-dad-tries-joke-to-impress-teenage-daughter's-friends cringeworthy?

PJ said there were some 'Finland Station' moments on Yes, but that the lyrics were generally clever without being pretentious....
