It was actualy the Chris Lake one that they said was useless. And it is.

I read a review that said they'd changed the levels of the instruments on the single copmpared to the album version. Has anyone detected anything? I did wonder when the CD referred to an Album Edit rather than Album Version.

Here in Finland She's Madonna is #1 in the radio airplay list, which also marks PSB's first number one in that chart. Take That's Patience peaked at #67, Sometimes this isn't such a bad country to live in after all.

I WONDER if, as Neil Tennant slips away from the car crash that is Robbie’s Rudebox, he has had time to ponder? For those less hardened to the slings and arrows of the pop world than Tennant, this track could be the equivalent of waking up in bed with two strange men and not knowing how you got there. If three big stars are going to make a song about another big star and they don’t want to look prats, then they have to come up with something more convincing than this. End of.

What a pathetic review. First of all, I don't think Neil would really mind waking up in bed between two strange men. And secondly, any review that ends with the sentence "End of" in 2007 for f***'s sake just can't be taken seriously.

What's the difference between the version on the 2 track CD single and the one on the remix CD single??

On the first few listens they sound the same!!

This whole Robbie backlash has become quite boring actually. What will ultimately become lost to almost everyone in this whole debacle is that its actually a very good album; its only fault being that its not a 10 song album, which it ultimately should have been.

No surprise, that the cheap, practical and musically scented toilet paper that is the NME jumped on the bandwagon having previously sung the albums praises. You can guarantee that the morons that voted on that did so based solely on hearing the single, Rudebox and not the album.

I agree Frequency - the whole Robbie bashing is so fashionable right now.
Rudebox as an album was a risk given the very MOR vibe of Robbie's usual output and while I dont think it obtained him the street cred it deserved, its a fine effort with some outstanding pop music.

What I reckon it highlights is the very tight equation required to get cut through and a pop 'hit' (defined as volume sales and airplay). It needs clever timely marketing, the right remixes for the dancefloor and a freakin great video, all of which I in my view the Rudebox singles have failed to deliver. I know its early days for She's Madonna, so time will tell.

Quite. And why is the "blame" laid solely at Neil's door? Did Chris and Robbie have nothing to do with the song? Bizarre.

The UK reviews of She's Madonna are extremely negative. In fact it shows that reviewers prefer to jump on the popular bandwagon, rather than having a decent opinion. It's cool to not-like Robbie at the moment. At least some of the more decent reviews focus on Robbie's recent problems and state that the expected poor chart result of She's Madonna is not because of the song's qualilty. I prefer that attitude.

In the Netherlands, many people are remarkly positive about She's Madonna. Even people (even Robbie-fans) who claim that Rudebox is a poor album, do express that they really like She's Madonna a lot.

btw, a bit of trivia: As far as I know, It happened only once before that a PSB single charted higher in the Netherlands than in the UK: Suburbia hit #3 in the Dutch charts, in 1986. In Private by Dusty Springfield made #8 in 1990. A few PSB singles (such as What Have I Done To Deserve This) had the same result as in the UK, and all other singles performed worse.

She's Madonna has entered the EuroChart at #10


Robbie Williams,more often publicized for personal problems than record sales in recent months, got a new top 10 hit on the Eurochart as 'She`s Madonna' (Chrysalis), featuring fellow EMI act the Pet Shop Boys, came in at No. 10. That was after debuts of No. 3 in Italy, No. 4 in Germany and No. 5 in Holland; its U.K. release was on Monday.

A great tribute to Pet Shop Boys on Dutch commercial radio station 'Radio 538' last hour. They announced the chart position of She's Madonna in the Top 40, climbing from #10 to #2, playing fragments of 'Suburbia' and 'What Have I Done To Deserve This' (disco mix, ironically), telling that PSB scored hits in 1986 and 1987 and are now very popular again.
