Um, King Of Bongo was a big hit throughout Europe (though not the UK). So I kinda assume there are others who like the song too.

As reported in today's Guardian, The Pet Shop Boys have co-written a song on Robbie's new album called 'She's Madonna'.
It is obviously going to be brilliant.
The story behind the song however, is a tangled web of intrigue and mystery.
I've heard from several moles that it is based on a conversation 'someone' had when dumping their then-current squeeze.
According to them, the conversation went thus:
"Look, you know I really, really love you. But she's Madonna!"
He obviously got completely swept away by her etc.

An anonymous white label from a major record label - it shouldn't be too hard to guess who this is - but just treat this as a great mid tempo disco house record from Soul Mekanik, a brash electro houser from Riton and, the highlight, a retro-funk midtempo houser from Chicken Lips. Whoever it is, these are great instrumental dubs!!!

This project is very strange. We're The Pet Shop Boys is a rather crap song to begin with. I never understood why PSB felt the need to cover it, let alone for Robbie to cover it.

Vanity projects, eh? She's Madonna is just the Elton version of In private meets The Groucho Club. And how will Fat Dancer improve We're the Pet Shop Boys? I suppose it's some kind of post-modern homage. And I really do not want to hear him croon Louise in that mid-Atlantic Rod Stewart 'style' of his.

Yes, I really can't wait for this album.

I don't see why RW doing WTPSB is any worse than PSB doing it. After all, Egocentric Neil got it totally wrong when he introduced the song at The Barfly - "this is a song about us but not written by us." It's NOT about PSB at all.

Considering RW is such a big PSB fan it makes more sense for him to do the cover, actually. Though if PSB were the ones who suggested the cover it's a lazy choice by them. In fact it's probably just RW singing over their old backing track from 2003.

PSB covering it made sense, particularly on the single trailing a greatest hits retrospective. I love their version and yes, you're right that the song itself isn't about them per se.

Fat Dancer covering the song only makes sense as most of his songs do - a preening karaoke imitation of the original (and cover) invested with his ego and not much else besides. He'll probably include No regrets in the final verse.

In normal circumstances I'd be inclined to agree with you, except that as My Robot Friend had no idea RW had covered his song until I emailed him last week it's not gonna happen, sadly lol He would have had to give permission for any other composition to be included within his.

I anxiously await RW's B-side to She's Madonna though - apparently it's a medley of Heart and Like A Virgin.

ROBBIE WILLIAMS has bottled out of a chart showdown with man of the moment JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE.

The Prince Of Pop has delayed his new album release — called 1974 — so it won’t go head-to-head with Justin’s latest, FutureSex: LoveSounds.

Both CDs were due out on September 11 but now Robbie has held his back until the beginning of October.

It’s a surprise move by Robbie. I hear he has his best and most experimental album to date up his sleeve.

And the delay could now mean a chart battle with THE KILLERS.

A source said: “Taking on Timberlake would have been madness but The Killers will still provide some serious competition.”

I get the feeling Robbie’s on autopilot on his Close Encounters tour.

But his fans shouldn’t be too disheartened.

I’ve got my hands on details of 1974, named after the year Robbie was born, and it sounds like a return to form.

The first single, Rudebox, comes out in September, followed by Lovelight — which I hear is Robbie at his best — in December.

He has also recorded two rap-style tracks called The 80s and The 90s, about his days in TAKE THAT.

One shocking lyric describes how he’d like to cut former manager Nigel Martin-Smith’s eyes with a Stanley knife, says a record label source.

Two more amazing songs are The Actor, inspired by his hero DAVID BOWIE and She’s Madonna — which I told you on Saturday the Queen Of Pop loves.

Robbie has also recorded a tribute to NEIL TENNANT and CHRIS LOWE called We’re The Pet Shop Boys, written by US synth guru MY ROBOT FRIEND.

There are two cover versions on the album: Kiss Me, a hit for Robbie’s right-hand man STEPHEN DUFFY and THE HUMAN LEAGUE’s Louise, which Robbie has said is one of his favourite songs.

LILY ALLEN sings backing vocals on two tracks.

With PET SHOP BOYS production and great tracks, I think it’s a shame Robbie’s not squaring up to Timberlake.

Robbie Williams has teamed up with the Pet Shop Boys to write a track about legendary pop star Madonna for his new album.

The former Take That singer penned the song 'She's Madonna' for his new album, '1974', but apparently had some reservations about the lyrics.

According to Pet Shop Boys singer Neil Tennant, Williams was worried the Queen Of Pop might take offence to the tune, but apparently she is a fan of the track.

Tennant said: "Apparently she likes it. Rob feared she'd think he was stalking her."

Meanwhile, the singer reportedly had a vitamin injection in his bottom last week to help him perform on his current world tour.

According to Bang Showbiz, Robbie was so tired after several nights of passion with female fans in Europe, he had to have a boost to help him with his high-energy performance.

I love the fact that the writer of the article seemingly thinks that it is tough taking on Timberlake or The Killers. Isn't it the other way around? Timberlake and The Killers wouldn't want to take on Robbie - at least not outside of the US.
