Well if Minimal is relased on 24 July, one can safely assume that PSB will appear on the last ever TOTP.

Unless they do some special show celebrating all the artists that have appeared on it over the last 40 odd years.

It has been dead for ages...but that shouldn't distract from the significance of it disappearing. I think it's been around about as long as pop itself, and almost any aspiring pop musician for the last 30 or whatever years will have got their first visual impression of pop music by seeing TOTPs in their family house.
Personally, I got just about the first hard on I can remember when I saw some sexy female singer performing in what must have been the early eighties. Not sure who it was, but my pyjamas were turned into a tent!

It pisses me off when digital downloading and the rise of the internet culture is blamed totally.
No, it's no coincidence that the downward spiral began with the spate of marketing execs, 'style' gurus and 'svengalis' and bland, formulaic cheaply manufactured pop acts came on the scene. It's no wonder kids aren't really interested in pop music anymore, certainly not a significant number by any means, considering the rise in population, blah, blah. All the creativity has just ebbed away, or recycled into musical theatre.
It would have been more of a shock if it had been dropped 16 or 17 years ago, because it's been pathetic and embarassing to watch in the last few years.There's no point now in having a pop show unless the infrastructure in the music industry vastly changes to reflect raw talent, not just someone with a nice voice who has a nice face. That's ten a penny nowadays. But of course imusic industries are businesses, and like every other competitive market you want to make maximum profit for mininal input, as cheaply as possible. Therefore bring on the drones.

I was thinking the other day how important TTOPs was in terms of creating the public persona of the Pet Shop Boys. In the UK in the mid-eighties, the first place that most people saw them was TOTPs, and their performances, with Neil standing very still, and Chris playing the keyboard with one hand,were very unusual and eye catching. If it wasn't for TOTPs, their career could have been very different.

You must also be familiar with Hot Gossip on the Kenny Everett Show. As for the Pan People/Pans People, they were rather lame and crap. Hated them.
