Neil said years ago that because of the "Further Listening"-series there won't be a "Alternative 2" ...

It wouldnt sell well, but I would love for them to sell all the acapellas of their songs and instrumentals. I believe Jay-Z the rapper releases acapella versions of his CD's and instrumentals.

Please, forget Alternative 2 or Disco 4. Don't you see is a good excuse for them to delay
new releases?

That's right, there will be no Alternative 2 due to further listening. But just look at how good the b-sides were from Release/Popart period. Superb.

It's a pity that they won't release an
Alternative 2 instead. I don't want to buy records I already have just to get the b-sides, but what's worse is that the Further Listening cd's also include stuff I'm not interested in like remixes, alternate mixes and so on.
I only want a regular b-side compilation, just like the first Alternative!

As much as I love alot of those tracks, a possible Alternative 2 "seems" a bit weaker than Alternative 1 .... maybe its just because the first one had a nostalga element to it
In any case, Fundamental sold minimally.... so an album of B sides would be a dud move!
I'd rather they focused on that album of pure-pop we know they have in them!!!

I agree with people who don't want potential new releases to be pushed back by re-issues. Alternative was released in a very different record sales environment to the one we have now. I agree it's a gorgeous package, and it's lovely to have all those songs in one place, but an Alternative 2 would be one compilation too far, what with the Further Listening series.

oh yes, what a double-cd! great song list!
according to me they could do a "alternative-tour", and then sell a live-dvd of it. but... won't be a mass-seller, right?
i would buy alternative 2 or maybe "b-sides" with a fine booklet. but to be honest, i am fine with some b-side downloads from itunes or similar, since i don`t need to have every mix of each released song on cd. i guess they will decide, wether they do more "further listening"-issues or a b-side compilation. both are no real "must haves", so marketing has to be creative with it.

I say why not release it? Compilations are profitable even if they don't sell much, since no new tracks are recorded. Furthermore, this is actually a compilation that many fans would want. There might even be quite a number of more casual fans around, who buy PSB albums, but don't buy singles and don't want to buy Further Listening CD's, who'd want to buy this.
I'm sure it won't happen, though.

As long as they still release the FLs
If they had to choose between Alternative 2 (I wish they used Besides!) and FLs I hope they would have the sense to pick the FLs.

True, but the FLs used a few different mixes to the ones featured on Alternative. The same thing could happen with an Alternative 2, for instance, the regular vs the extended mixes of The Ressurectionist, The Boy Who Couldn't Keep His Clothes On, In Private etc.
There are also alternative/unreleased versions of Positive role model, NTFT, BYT that can be used so there's even less repetition between an A2 and FLs.
