Hello, dears. I just wanna say thanks to all of you that have PMd me recently or posted in Niall's Welcome Back thread (now in the off-topic section) and/or other threads in the last couple of weeks to welcome me back and say how much you missed me since the board moved to its current location.
Think it was something you'd read.
As I'm sure all of you with an IQ in double figures or more will have worked out by now (OK, that excludes Undiertaker, but don't be too hard on him, he is from Grim-sby, after all), Little Bummer Boy and I are indeed the same person. I decided to start posting under the LBB alias as a way of testing the water, as at the time, in around late Nov, I wasn't really sure if I wanted to post on this new board.
The move from aimoo, where, in the end game, Bowesy and I were battling it out for No.1 poster (ie who could post the most crap, basically, just to up our count), and I ended up the winner (just!) seemed to me like a good time to quit the board. As many of you will know, the daily postings on aimoo didn't exactly help the relationship I was in at the time in Holland. After all, this internet lark can be addictive stuff. Dangerously so. It got to the stage where I prefered to up my post count and tease my beloved Techno (and our threesome skinheaded pal Bowesy) than sit on the couch and watch a movie with my boyf.
Anyway, there's other reasons why I didn't post here after the move. After the devastating split at the end of Sept, I needed time to recuperate, and I spent a few weeks at my folks' place in exciting Milton Keynes, a week in the sun in Greece and then my dear old granny died at the beginning of Nov. I'd only been back in the UK for 6 weeks, feeling fragile and not knowing what I was gonna do with my life or where I wanted to live.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, my gran (who lived to be 93, so she had a good innings) left her London flat to me. It's mortgage-free and not far from Central London, so with a bit of modernising and decorating, based on current market values, it should be worth at least a quarter of a million. I can't quite believe it. Me a homeowner at last, and handed to me on a plate. Bless her. It also helps when your granny only had one child (my dad) and you're your her favourite grandchild, I guess.
And it stuck in your head.
It really took the release of PopArt for me to get back into posting on the PSB forum (as well as lovely emails from the likes of Niall and dVTB telling me I was being missed on the board).
Despite all the great best of comps that were released around the same time (some of my faves being Suede, REM, RHCP, Human League and, erm, Lulu), PopArt has hardly been off my CD player since I received it.
Listening to so many cast-iron classics one after another rekindled my PSB fandom. I'd say it's up there with Best Of Bowie, Beatles 1 and Abba Gold as one of the most important collections of singles in the history of popular music.
It's comforting to know that it took such an item for me to realise there's some nothing wrong with posting on the forum again, even if it's so time consuming. I'm particularly pleased to see some of the newbie posters like Top and HerdsOfWildebeestSweepingMajestically have a sense of humour, and enjoy a bit of harmless banter. Not everyone does!
Anyway, I'm still unsure as to whether I'll drop the LBB alias now, as I've grown quite attached to it. Indeed, a few posters have actually complimented me on the nice nick. It's funny what an influence David Bowie and Bing Crosby can have isn't it. (Tom, their real first names were Derek)
