Love etc. is no. 20 in this morning's midweek chart.

it's only second day of sales...

Does no. 20 midweeks = mega-flop?

That chart position doesn't include downloads yet does it?

To be honest, probably better than first feared. After the shambles of the distributin and availability, missing the top 40 entirely was a big possibility.

Still plenty of time for it to ascend, I may end up buying another copy of CD1...if I can find one!

All entries so far in the top 20 except two have 90% or more digital downloads propelling them into the charts. The exceptions are 'Islands in the stream' whose digital sales represent 67% of sales (and supported by instore sales due to its charity status) and Love Etc whose digital sales represent 38.4% of sales.

The fact that it is almost impossible to buy the CD anywhere is not helping (Amazon have no stock) and the demise of the CD single on the high-street is killing more traditional bands.

One has to ask why the CD is out of stock from the leading online retailer......did they under order or have EMI not bothered to supply many???!

Not good

Downloads now make up 96% of single sales, but clearly PSB's are not a download band. The Hit 40 UK chart no longer even includes physical sales in it's chart, so Love etc has no chance of charting in the Top 40 there.

As a new release unfortunately this number 20 position will include all pre orders (both download and despatched physical orders) whereas all the other singles in the chart that aren't new releases will only have normal daily sales to count.

I expect the single may just scrape into the Top 40.

As a guide, I don't know what you want but I can't give it any more was 5 on early midweeks and then entered at 15.

However, I presume an internal record company chart is still produced for physical singles sales, of which PSB's will certainly be near the top this week!

Let's hope for a fast replacement of the CD singles, that will help to reach a higher position, or at least to keep that #20.

At least they are also doing promo this week which might help.

Would it be possible for you to provide sales info for positions 10-20 so we can get an idea of what Love Etc is up against?

It's unlikely to do better than no. 20, if that's the midweek position, and more likely to desend through the week. Let's hope it can hold on.

Shame. I thought/hoped for top ten.

I don't have time to sit down with the calculator and work it all out. However, to get to no.10 they have to double sales.

Another interesting trend. This weeks No1 in the midweeks is Right Round. Of its 18751 sales (all of which are digital), 2521 of them were on mobile phones. With PSB, just 6 people downloaded it on their phone.

The good news for PSB is on album sales. Downloads account for just 3% of the current midweek no1 position, although half of those were bought in supermarkets. We'd better hope PSB manage to get themselves stocked in Asda and Tesco!
