I think it's more that trying to fit music to lyrics necessarily hampers how a melody flows, whereas the reverse allows a melody to do its thing and finding words and phrasing to match. The difference between a poem set to music and a song.telys wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 10:05 pmChris is perhaps doing too much of the work on the music and melodies.

Not true! I heard Neil couldn't get a reservation at the hot new restaurant until 10:30pm last month!!NikacP0kac wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 10:11 pm Fortunately there were no tragic events in the PSB camp, I think that influenced DM an awful lot to write some of the best stuff of the last 20 years.
I sincerely *love* Disco 2 and listen to it straight through regularly.

But ghosts again is a Bizzare Love Triangle blueprint and the rest of the album is the usual plodding DM that they’ve done for 25 years now.S-sense wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 9:23 pm To be honest i hoped for something like Ghosts again when i heard that they Work with James Ford. loneliness was very good but not as powerful and inspired as the lead single from Depeche Mode imho.

Shout out to If Jesus Had a Sister, which is glorious and exactly the sort of thing I love them doing these days. Just wonderful.

I stumbled on Sense of Time by chance and it is fantastic. I would like to personally thank to the Boys for creating such a masterpiece.
I do not expect much from the album, though. I do not mean this in a whiny way. They have never released a bad album and will never release a bad album. Maybe average but never bad. However, let's admit it: what they will release will not be that different from the past ones released so far so I feel really lucky when I find some jewel like Sense of Time before they stop doing music at all.

Regarding Neils vocal performance, I felt something was a little off on loneliness but I think its just that the vocal sounds too in your face somehow like it has too much gain on it. the first two lines of "if Jesus had a sister" his voice does start off weak....I am surprised they let it slide, but everything after that sounds great. I dont notice anything with Dancing Star and Sense of time...he sounds like Neil always does.

I was thinking how lucky I am to have my one and only all-time favorite duo give me the extreme honor of being able to get the same goosebumps on this release date as they did 40 years ago. I’ve been a diehard from day one and today was a gift. Receiving after all this time, Consistent and unique vibe from people that I love and respect is the coolest thing ever. I listened to dancing star for the first time, not knowing how it would go like always. And then 15 minutes later, having it stuck in my head like so many many PSB songs have - and do. New PSB music day is the best no matter what I get. How lucky are we that we still get it?
BEING BORED.

Dancing Star has many of the elements I like in a song, and loved the remixes!
I've been dancing all day, these gentlemen make me very happy. I feel so fortunate to have their magic being part of my life.

Exactly! Ghosts Again is unfortunately the only highlight of that album and one of the best songs they’ve done since Alan Wilder’s departure 29 years ago.tottenhammattspurs wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 10:52 pmBut ghosts again is a Bizzare Love Triangle blueprint and the rest of the album is the usual plodding DM that they’ve done for 25 years now.S-sense wrote: Wed 03 Apr 2024, 9:23 pm To be honest i hoped for something like Ghosts again when i heard that they Work with James Ford. loneliness was very good but not as powerful and inspired as the lead single from Depeche Mode imho.

Dancing Star is a strong single.
Chorus has been playing on repeat in my head the whole day.
I like the edginess of the track, and the baseline, like in Loneliness is great! I think the problem for us PSB fans are our (involuntary) expectations, based on what Neil and Chris have done in these 40 years. In our minds, whether we like it or not, there is always a hope of possibility of a new West End Girls, Domino Dancing, Can You Forgive Her…
If anyone else released Dancing Star, I for one would have proclaimed, “this is my favorite new band!”

Absolutely. I can't think of another group that writes such intelligent lyrics on diverse topics, not to mention amazing music.D.J. wrote: Thu 04 Apr 2024, 7:19 am Dancing Star is a strong single.Chorus has been playing on repeat in my head the whole day.

I do think ‘Love Is a Bourgeois Construct’ and ‘Vocal’ are up there with the tracks you mentioned, but, yes, I'm always hoping for another one of those. ‘Dancing Star’ is very catchy and a nice tribute to Nureyev. It’s growing on me.

Re: New single „Dancing star“ (digital April 3rd / CD May 3rd)
As a big fan of "Neil's historical nonsense" (tm: C. Lowe), I'm enjoying Dancing Star lyrically, although I think the remixes are selling it best for me musically. I prefer this one to Loneliness so far. I also loved the sheer cheek of Party in the Blitz the first time around but the swingy remix is utterly brilliant.
Sense of Time is a winning slab of mindless euphoria. Neil's voice sounds much richer on this one. I think that "imminent dark ages" section might be my new favorite bridge.
Not sold on Jesus yet.

Me to my only complaint is Dancing Star is to short, like with the album, after a 4 year wait I was hoping for a 12 track album but we can't have everything.y3potential wrote: Thu 04 Apr 2024, 8:22 amTotally agree with the above.D.J. wrote: Thu 04 Apr 2024, 7:19 am Dancing Star is a strong single.Chorus has been playing on repeat in my head the whole day.

Totally agree. I love Dancing Star. It's very catchy and I think it's an obvious hit. The feeling that the song is short is what makes you repeat the song over and over again and never stop listening to it. It's part of the charm, but it definitely gets in your head. It's catchy.y3potential wrote: Thu 04 Apr 2024, 8:22 amTotally agree with the above.D.J. wrote: Thu 04 Apr 2024, 7:19 am Dancing Star is a strong single.Chorus has been playing on repeat in my head the whole day.

I love it. Every time I listen to it I find new nuances that make me like it more.
Solomon's remix gives it another point of view.
