You are basically right - but the lettering you've used is wrong. In all these songs, the progression ends on the root chord, which is denoted i (as it's minor). So for example in Rent, the chorus ends with F-G-Am, which is VI-V-i, as the song is in A minor. If the song was in F major, then F-G-Am would indeed be I-II-iii (although this would be more unusual chord sequence, as it would include a non diatonic chord... and it wouldn't have the same sense of bringing the musical passage to a close, as it wouldn't be ending on the root)

Thank you, that does make sense to me. So Domino Dancing’s F-G-Em-Am would be VI-V—v-i, right? And by association the same for the chorus of Being Boring, Kings Cross etc. What they once referred to as “The Chord Change” in a Q Magazine interview.

No doubt they have, but not this Pethead. I've loved their stuff right up until this album. Hotspot was the first sign for me that they're slipping a bit, but these new songs are even worse for me.

Hotspot defo felt like the leftovers of the Price era. It's the first album of theirs since Release that I struggled with. Even Elysium had Leaving, Invisible, A Face Like That, Requiem, Memory Of The Future.

The issue with this forum (and forums in general) is that the tiny minority of terminally online, depressed people without a positive word to say about anything flood the comments and there is no way of downvoting them - so these hyper-minority, excessive pessimistic views become the majority of posts, despite not representing wider opinion at all

there's a reason most forums died in the 00's

I think it would be really, really weird to have a forum where only "positive" opinions and reviews are allowed. That's actually really disturbing. Is that what you'd prefer?

Nobody said that. But there's a certain few posters who hate everything they do and their negativity is repeated multiple times in every thread, and sadly because they seem to have nothing else to do but be on this forum, it takes over the whole thing. It's only about 4 of them but since joining here they make up 75% of what I see. When I questioned that I was told a lot feel the same about it.

I am finding real beauty in "If Jesus had a sister" on multiple listens today.

"Sense of time" is fast becoming my favourite Pets track in a long time.

I can't stop listening to Sense of Time in full repeat. Feel slightly addicted to it. It somehow reminds me of Faithless masterpiece Salva Mea.

I think Elysium is an absolutely brilliant album if you remove Ego Music.

Hotspot has Hoping for a Miracle, which is right up there with Leaving and Being Boring for me. I also adore Monkey Business, Only the Dark and especially Burning the Heather, which is gorgeous.

I am starting to like "Dancing Star", I still think it is too short, the B-Side "Sense Of Time" is superb, "If Jesus Had A Sister" is also very good.

I like "Dancing star", but I find the chorus a bit weak – the verse is much stronger, imho. The chorus would gain from a 2nd part with a different melody, and I would also prefer if the chorus had a different chord sequence than the verse. Also, a real middle-eight/break section with another chord sequence would als be nice. So, all in all I like the sound and the verses, but I wish they had put a bigger effort in the chorus and general song structure,

Love the Dancing Star video, even though quite cheap and basic . Screams second single, lower budget, but enjoyable
