Just done some quick research on the MOBO Awards. Past winners include The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Jamiroquai and Mick Hucknall. Therefore calling the awards racist is a bit simplistic.

Exactly. Soul music is just one of the genres that has been lumped in by Dave as black music. Dusty Springfield made lots of soul records. Does that mean she was half-caste? (sorry, mixed race is the phrase to use nowadays, isn't it? ).

I mentioned I Feel Love in the thread that started this off (Switch It Over). If that is to be considered a 'black' record because the singer is black then I wonder whether PSB should also be regarded as mixed race? 'Cos make no no mistake - if it wasn't for records like that PSB wouldn't have made the music they have done.

Perhaps Dave feels the Bronski Beat-Marc Almond version of the song is superior as its sung by white guys. They're all a bunch of poofs but at least they're white, eh?

No doubt he feels Love To Love You Baby has been vastly improved by Kiki Kokova singing it instead of Donna too. Can't think why thet might be.

Fair point o big one. For some reason her posts annoy me a great deal more than anybody elses. However, my issue regarding this whole fiasco is the role and behaviour of the moderators. They are hardly contributing to the debate are they? One of them has left and the other has disappeared completely since posting their all important message.

It reminds me of a great straight friend of mine who doesn't understand the need for gaylesbi pubs and meetings and parties. She says she accepts me the way I am, so do my other straight friends (most of em) so why would I go for mostly-gay company sometimes...

Well yes. I would.
But then that's because every regular pub is aimed at straight people and thinks everyone in there to be straight. I'm not saying I'd be chucked out of there for kissing my girlfriend, but I'd get a few looks at the very least. Sometimes I just want to be in an environment with other gay people because then I am one of the crowd, I fit the norm...

Imagine for a minute that the world was gay and being straight was the exception. That everywhere you went you saw gay rolemodels, gay families, gay teachers, gay grandfathers and grandmothers, gay everything. And you were straight.
Wouldn't you want to be around straight people too once in a while.

Now imagine the whole world around you was black. The biggest actors were black. Most tv programmes were aimed at black people. The president, prime minister, queen and everyone in authority was black. The big record company executives were black.
I think I wouldn't blame you if you held a celebration of "white music" then.

No, racism is not a one way street. It's not. I've been called a racist once for saying I didn't particularly like Serena Williams! But I don't think it goes for those awards.
