They did that cos the Tories sold everything off in the 80s and fostered the idea of lowering your costs being the bottom line in business, thus creating the consnsus that it was okay for British companies to shift production overseas. Uk was therefore left with a need to create consumers rather than workers - hey presto financial services 'industry' under New Labour. asset stripping/outscourcing will continue under the CON-DEM pact and we will be in a greater mess than we are today given that bopth parties are free market/ low regulation advocates.

Most of the immigrants we have inrecent years actually came in under the Tories given our shit foreign policy and failure to act in conflicts where we had no economic interest - somalia, the balkans, south america. CApitalism benefits from all of this immigration anyhow as it enables them to lower costs - i.e wages.....

Sorry to change the topic slightly, but that might not actually be true if a recent scientific paper is to be believed. I'll see if I can find it online somewhere.

Also, did anyone else read about the recent findings that pretty much prove that Neanderthal man interbred with Homo Sapiens, and all Europeans, Middle Easterns and Asians have their DNA. People from Central and Southern Africa do not.

Let's face it, when people are posting articles from The Daily Mail to make a "point" about immigration, then it's transparently clear that a rational and balanced discussion is impossible. Even if the point is one of waste rather than downright anti-Johnny Foreignerism, immigrants as a group are far too handy a target for anybody to be too comfortable playing into the hands of the Daily Mail's xenophobic agenda. This after all is the newspaper whose owner supported Hitler, Mussolini, and Oswald Mosley in the 1930s. They don't care too much for the waste of public money when the royal family are the source.

That's specious reasoning. I'm no fan of the Daily Mail but these kind of stories are true, whether or not they get off on reporting them. When I find amazing is how all these immigrants manage to arrive on this sceptred isle despite having a vast continental land mass between them and us. If I was genuinely in fear for my life, I'd flee to the nearest country so really the only refugees we should have here are the odd Scot who's fallen out of favour with Mad Jock MacTavish and Welshmen who are frightened of sheep.

the problem is the Mail et al will highlight immigrant families, I'm sure there are a large number of 'pure bred' British families being as parasitic. There was a story couple of years ago about a child killed by an immigrant drunk driver, the argument being that if he wasn't in the country child would still be alive, well yes very possibly, but compared to people killed by 'genuine' Brit drink drivers a drop in the ocean. Drink driving is the killer not nationality
