I think they're a truly working class band, actually. Beloved of miners everywhere.

And minors who oddly enough seem to get a kick out of 'When I'm 64'.

They have a keen sense of irony todays children. Do not trust children.

Maybe, Let It Be doesn't have made up rubbish like 'zigger zig ah' or whatever bollocks it is they say in Wannabe.

From Here

A song by Paul, it came from the phrase, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, that means "life goes on," that Paul heard by a man named Jimmy Anonmuogharan Scott Emuakpor, a Nigerian congo player who played in a group known as Bad Manners. Paul met him in the Bag o' Nails club in Solo, London. When Paul wrote the song, Jimmy Scott was annoyed, citing that he should receive some of the financial rewards for it. McCartney responded by telling him that if he had written any part of it, he would be glad to pay him, but he didn't. Scott sued, and meanwhile, was jailed for refusing to pay support to his ex-wife. Jimmy appealed to Paul to pay his rather large past support payment, which Paul did to help him out, but on the condition that Jimmy drop his case against him over the song. Jimmy did and he and Paul came to be and remained close friends over the years until Scott's death in 1986.

By the way, if you want crap Beatles Lyrics, this is "Hello Goodbye"

You say yes, I say no, you say stop and I say go, go, go, oh, no, you say goodbye and I say hello, hello, hello

I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello, hello, hello, I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello

I say high, you say low, you say why, and I say I don't know, oh, no

You say goodbye and I say hello, hello, hello (hello goodbye, hello goodbye)

I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello, (hello goodbye hello goodbye) hello, hello

I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello, why, why, why, why, why, why, do you say good bye, goodbye, goodbye,

Oh, no, you say goodbye and I say hello, hello, hello, I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello, hello, hello

I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello, hello, hello,

You say yes (I say yes) I say no, you say stop and I say go, go, go, Oh, no, you say goodbye and I say hello, hello, hello

I don't know why you say goodbye I say hello, hello, hello, I don't know why you say goodbye I say hello, hello, hello

I don't know why you say goodbye I say hello, oh, oh, oh, oh, hello, hela, heba helloa, hela, heba helloa

Hela, heba helloa, hela, heba helloa, hela, heba helloa, hela, heba helloa, hela, heba helloa, hela, heba helloa

ArseSpanker wrote: Ps. I presume Zeus was reffering to drummer Pete Best being sacked for being 'minging'. The same Pete Best replaced by the ever so photogenic Ringo Starr, yeah?
Um, Ringo was brought in as a session drummer and it took a long time till his position in the band was secured, he was ignored by the others (wasn't even invited or told about John's first wedding) and treated as an outsider. A bit like how Mutya and Keisha treated Heidi when she joined the Sugababes. Several other drummers were brought in for over a year as test Beatles.

He only became a Beatle properly when their manager realised he was funny in interviews and became the most popular Beatle in America. Because of his popularity in America, he was given a token album track to sing per album...

Not manufactured.

*sigh* For how long will this bullshit comparison continue? Every band that wants to be commercially succesful is 'manufactured' in a certain way. Yes, the Beatles dealt with publicity and promotion in a clever way. Just like approximately 99% of all other artists. Yes, the music of the Beatles is commercially milked to death, with re-releases of old hits. Just like the music of most other well-known artists.

... except for the Spice Girls, of course. Since they released just 2 proper albums and had only 10 hit singles, of which 7-8 have already been totally forgotten. But of course the Spice Girls should be hailed as song writers, since they co-wrote 'Wannabe'...

I think my history is right
Lennon/McCartney wrote the songs - how exactly are you defining 'manufactured'?
I mean't that just because you wrote the songs you don't always have control of the band and the way it is percieved or promoted.
in this case Epstien was the manufacturer.
When people talk about 'manufactured pop' they are referring to artists like the Spice Girls or Westlife, who were auditioned, and then created to fit the ideal profile of a record company, and who have no (or limited) artistic input.

You can't call the Beatles manufactured pop, just because they had a bloody manager! The way it is perceived or promoted is largely down to marketing, and every group in history has some sort of marketing mechanism behind them.

To call the Beatles 'manufactured pop' in the modern sense of the word is quite clearly a ludicrous suggestion.

Are Oasis also manufactured pop because they have a manager too? And the Pet Shop Boys, are they manufactured too? Its clearly a ridiculous notion.

Oh, for Christs sake - its a play on words! Do you really not get it?!

And almost every person who reads this will do so in the style of the song.... and why? Because it is a truly brilliant pop song with a killer melody. The Beatles broke down musical barriers and created a new genre of music - people really need to get real here. There is a lot of niaive stupidity flying around this thread.

Show me a person who believes that Spice Girls really co-wrote Wannabe and I'll show you a person who believes that Britney Spears co-wrote 8 songs on her last studio album. No matter that it says so in the credits, nowadays pop stars negotiate themselves a co-writing credit so that they'll get bigger royalties and appear more credible ("they write their own material!").

Besides, has anybody heard Wannabe lately? It has aged less gracefully than Mickey Rourke.
