Very strange you should say that….lalolalo wrote:When listening to All the young dudes, are you also tempted to go "Man you should have seen us on the way to Venus walking on the milky way..."
Or is it just me?
I listened to ATYD once on the train into work this morning and all day I’ve had OMD going round in my head! Hadn’t made the connection but that must be it!!

Re: The fifth single
My guess is they edited the rap to remove the word ‘f@g’* and also because having a brick in your bag might be seen as encouraging violence. The BBC wouldn’t have played it otherwise. (If I’m correct in this assumption it’s obviously a sad and stupid state of affairs, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised!)

To me the intro sounds like the long version of My girl. Same synths, probably.wieske wrote: Thu 07 Nov 2024, 10:56 am The Clean air hybrid electric bus intro remains me of Sexy Northerner

Beauty is just superb. I assume it's about the arrival of Arte Nouveau in Paris in 1890 but they may be referencing New Romanticism in London too.

Another vote for the Boy Harsher remix - works really well with the new chords (and gives me Always On My Mind vibes).

- « New London Boy » Boy Harsher mix is incredible !
« All the young dudes » Richard X mixes are superb.
This material is much better than the James Ford versions.
Let’s enjoy this PSB time while it lasts.

Re: The fifth single
They missed a trick here - the Richard X mix should have been the A-Side with the edit of New London Boy. It's a colossal improvement on the dire BBC Piano Room version, and whilst their own recording here is better the Richard X remix knocks it out of the park.
The Boy Harsher remix of NLB is really nice, but glad they didn't mess about with the original too much for the A-Side.
I'm not such a fan of "Beauty..." - it made me think of Way Out West, and I think as an instrumental would be stronger. Whilst I get the lyrics, musically I think it's better without. Got a nice soundscape to it that would really be nice to hear without the words.

Re: The fifth single
I’ve been listening to this all day - I think it should have been the single mix. It would have been a real contemporary statement of intent. It would have proper blown the cobwebs off the radio two playlist.
Loving the love for ‘Beauty…’ but I’m not there yet. Every time I hear it I want to play ‘If Jesus had a sister’ instead. They sound vaguely similar to me.

Well that's the first and last time I listen to the I.JORDAN remix of ATYD.
What a load of piffle.

Decent release.
Both A New London Boy and dudes are big improvements on what I've previously heard. That Hybrid song, however, sounds like background music from when I used to watch Ceefax in the morning.
