I MADE MY EXCUSES AND LEFT - ballad / Chris vocal
Yep. Nice violins......... (7/10)

Oops.....my mistake - didnt notice Chris's name had been slipped in there! ( I guess thats how rumours fly around)
No, its Neil's vocals on that too......

God Willing is only about 90 secs long......in my view a rising from the ashes of Release moment...........

Anyway boys and girls. Practice your spelling of minimal, cos two days after hearing it, we're all still singing M I N I M A L out loud in our office!

>Way Dazzer plays it, it sounds like its going to be worse than Release

Is that possible?

NUMB - epic orchestral/acoustic ballad
Epic? Not really. Orchestral ballad yep. (7/10)

Not good news.

But then again... what does 'epic' actually mean? it seems a woolly term to describe pop music.

the odd orchestral flourish?

a v.long track?

lots of crescendoes?

or, all of the above and pounding synths as well (Somewhere, anyone?)

Sure, Neil's description may be misleading, but he may be using epic in a different sense to some others.

Also, if Fundamental is a return to top-form on the lyrical side of things, then Daz's review (for which we are all v.grateful, of course) should be taken in context: it often takes a few listens to get the full sense of a PSB lyric.. and, IMHO, when you do get the full sense, that's when a track really takes off for me.

Not heard it. Perhaps someone could msg me on that one.

Def epic? For me and epic PSB track is Left to My Own Devices etc. Remember, its a Trevor Horn production, so epic in a Horn sort of way. Think Two Tribes etc.

Im with Stupid for example, has epic flourishes and drums, but in itself is not an epic, disco thumping track.

Numb, again, has epic orchestral touches, particulary the opening, but settles into a piano backed balled with synth flourishes, whereas Integral has big bass, big chorus and big chants: One World, One Life, One Chance etc etc etc

Im still baffled by the idea of releasing Numb and Im With Stupid as the first single. As beautiful as Numb is, it will not get air play anywhere, whereas Im with Stupid is ok, and no doubt the Little Britain stars will help in terms of the video channels playing it, but thats about it.

The first single is going to be Minimal (good mark in your opinion).

One difficult question: do you think one of the songs could be a massive hit (Ex: go west, it's a sin)? (I know is difficult to answer that because it depens on different things not only the quality of the song, but try to answer it please).

Well, unless the official site says something against it in the next days, for me this is the right information:

Pet Shop Boys' new album is called "Fundamental" and has a provisional release date of April 17, 2006, on Parlophone Records. It will be preceded by a new single, "Minimal".

Of course, they can change their minds but we are talking about future.

Judging by the digging around people have been doing I think we can safely say that this has already slipped.
