good authority that he was playing Super Mario & actually made it to Level 7 just as the last notes faded ...
all the while maintaining his constant semiglum-semihappy expression? he is indeed a purveyor of electronic music

as I recall, this appearance was attended by something like 20,000 screaming girls & they (The Beatles) couldn't be heard
The attendance was 55,600 ( a record which stood until 1973)
In 1965, the beatles used 150 watt amps (up from 100 watt in 1964!). There were no "fold-back" speakers facing them on the stage, and of course no earphones.
Since they were playing a huge stadium, it was felt that they needed a bit more amplification for this concert, so the sound was routed through the stadium PA system also! This must have been interesting for them, hearing the sound a second or two later reverberating around the stadium all the while trying to play with thousands of fans screaming.
No wonder they gave up touring the following year.

I downloaded the clip from the link that was posted here a few days ago for the TOTP show.
It may be my computer, but it kinda looked to me like he might've been synching it; his lips didn't match up with the sound a couple of times (you gotta look really close). I'll have to watch it a few more times just to be sure on my part.
I've always been under the impression that the studios for those types of shows (TOTP, Bandstand, et al.) are often too small to support the space musicians would need; lip synching is almost the only option.
I don't have issue with the Boys synching either (not that anyone here does or has voiced this-just a statement). They write their own stuff (for the most part), they DO play instruments, and the talent factor is just there. Think of it this way: if you draw a picture, and it turns out great, is it cheating to trace over it and make another one? Like the Boys, is it cheating to lip synch your own songs from time to time?
If we were talking about Trashly Simpson and her Saturday Night Live blunder, well, that's just different altogether. She's not talented. Just famous.
