WHAT AN ABSOLUTE CROCK!!

Numb is brilliant whereas Resurrectionist is well & truly b-side standard.

There's been a kind a bigoted-like response to Numb purely because it's not a Tennant-Lowe composition. As far as I'm concerned the whole song has been emotionally rewritten by Neil's voice.

What is it specifically that people don't like about Numb- i would really like to understand.

Does it sound too American Idol? Is it because (apart from God Willing) it's the only song on the album with a maximum of 2 syllables per word?

For me it's one of the highlights. On first listening I could instantly get why they planned to add it to Popart & give it a single release.

All of Fundamental sounds dated if I'm being honest. And it's amazing that the album is fantastic despite of that! 'The Resurrectionist' sounds like a track that could've been on Alternative. But that's awesome, Alternative ROCKS!

True, I think "Numb" is the one song that doesn't deserve to be on the album. After listening to the ballads they wrote themselves, why would they go with such an inferior song written by somebody else?

All the Numb haters need to clean the wax out of their ears. So what if they didn't write it? Neil gives a positively superb vocal performance, and it is one of the most dramatic and striking ballads they've ever delivered. Seems like some people might be worried that a PSB song has a chance to appeal to a group larger than just the fanbase. And the song would have been dreadful in Aerosmith's hands...now that's up to the interpretation, not the writing, correct? When you find out the song was written right after her mother's death, the weight starts sinking in. Give it more of a chance...heck, the CD isn't even released yet!

the only reason why I hate it because that song scares me, especially intro
it sounds very dark and sounds like nothing PSB have ever recorded
it's such a funeral song and that's why I always skip it

The bottom line is that if Neil and Chris decided that Numb instead of the Resurrectionist should be or deserved to be on Fundamental, then Numb should be on the album instead of the Resurrectionist. Neil and Chris as the Pet Shop Boys and the artist have the ultimate and artistic right to make the album they want to make, decide what tracks they want to put on their album and how they want to sequence them.

Judging by the comments on this thread and the Fundamental Sequencing thread, some fans here feel that there's some problems about certain tracks on Fundamental or its sequence. Everyone seems to have his or her own sequence preferences, likes or dislikes about the tracks and the album. If we are going to change and resequence the album to one person's taste, there's always someone else who will be unhappy. Sometimes the solution is worse than the problem. As long as Neil and Chris are happy about the album, it's all that matters. We should respect their decisions and be appreciative that they are still making such wonderful music for us.

There is nothing wrong with NUMB .. this is the wave you'r arms in the Air with a lighter Anthem..
If you don't like it fine, there are tracks on here that will make some people cry others will hate the same song..
All Music is the same some you like some you hate"some people don't like rock music but what I love I love with Passion..

I haven't heard Numb yet but The Resurrectionist is a classic PSB b-side. As Drico observes in his review, it's always been thus. Paninaro, Do I have to?, Your funny uncle, Shameless and We all feel better in the dark are all b-sides! Plus countless other gems.

The Resurrectionist is also b-side material thematically, like Zazou in the night or Don Juan in the Balkans. And the whole Victorian theme complements Neil's garb for I'm with Stupid too.

I would say it's more to do with marketing if you put rubbish tracks on the single or the same tracks as there are on the album then you would have No CD singles.

1:Why would you go out and buy something that was the same as the Album.
2:If Groups kept putting rubbish songs out I would think they would get dropped by there Record label no sales no profit.
