I was watching a clip of this the other day, and Jay Leno asks Neil "where did Chris go"? I was wondering what happened.the show is recorded in real time; chris can see one of the camera monitors as they perform 'streets' and to his mounting horror and anger, realises that the cameras have barely looked at him. feeling totally stitched up, he walks off stage mid song. neil is left to continue the song minus chris. he is interviewed by jay leno alone. chris refuses to perform 'seriously' until they reshoot 'steets'. realising this isn't going to happen, chris leaves the studio.

And what was Neil's reaction on it all? He looked a lot confused but he carried on...jmh wrote:where did you ses the clip?
the full drama is recounted between pages 74 - 91 of psb vs america.
the boys are booked to appear on the 'tonight show' and perform two songs - 'streets' and 'seriously'. chris is very worried beforehand and calls the shows director to ensure that despite the fact that they'll be performing with two dancers, jj belle and scott davidson, it is made clear that the psb are a duo.

In fact, it was funny and sweet but it surely wasn't easy for anyone involved.

I think the main fact that angered Chris (and I think it's written in the book) was that all viewers across America would now see the Pet Shop Boys as a one man act!
I don't blame Chris for walking off seeing as the cameramen where incompetent in their directing...
Also I think the producer lost her rag (once Chris disappeared) and said something along the lines of who's f&*%ing record company is this?
I too have both books and really enjoy reading them from time to time...
On a related note didn't Chris also storm off the video shoot for Kings Cross (later used in the Rent video?) or didn't he just not turn up...actually that maybe because nobody was there and he went home...

finally after all these years, i've seen the footage for the 1st time! i don't blame Chris for walking off. Neil looks slightly agitated after the song. look for Chris around the 2.40 mark. enjoy!

Wow thanks for the video, whoever uploaded that.
Neil sings that really well, I thinks.
I wonder what Chris and Neils relationship was like at the time? There were rumors of a splitup around the Discography era. Tho I doubt Chris would have blamed Neil for what happened on this show at all. Neil would gladly share the focus of attention - he's not exactly a relaxed performer sometimes.
