Most definitely not, can't see the appeal myself.
First time I heard this song, the cheesy/cheap intro reminded me on en Erasure track. Can't really shake that impression now, though it is lessened. I do like the way Neil sings (esp. the "do you want to go"), but as to the vocals/music, nah. I much prefer New York city boy and that's telling something... And I hope to god it is not a single. Most definitely not a track i want remixes from et al.

Its tackiness grows in time...a bit like the sweat-fermented bacteria that thrives in an Andy Bell leotard.
Let's face it, Sodom is trashy, limp-wristed poofery of the spangliest kind. Then again, everything can't be all George Bernard Shaw and Prokofiev. Just ask nickname.

Seeing as they came out dressed in military uniforms and video of tanks and bombs and stuff for this song I assume maybe I was closer to the truth than it looked.

I really liked it live, but I tend to skip it nowadays... (does that mean I should go and find one of those "which track on Fundamental do you skip" threads)??

well quite frankly, given the lyrics about death and destruction,its pretty much a no-brainer it would have to show scenes of war or "death and destruction" if they wanted to have video projections..not sure if the "sex" or divine intervention now makes any sense in your version.were there any other images in it or was it all just war stuff?
I would imagine its simply a statement in general about war, and sex and debauchery not some deeper meaning about the Iraq war. he could simply have dropped the in the word babylon somewhere instead of pussy footing around with sodom and gommorah if he had a message.

This song is about the occupation of Iraq and the scenes of death, destruction and debauchery that we've seen in the media. It's sung from the point of view of a young 'innocent' solder drafted into the forces with promises of living "their way of life" and "entertainment and instruction". "Sun, sex, sin, divine intervention, death and destruction" are certainly features of that "once in a lifetime production".

I don't know. I don't think it's about Iraq. it's a biblical theme... about living your life out there, in the middle of it all, taking risks, and going for the prize etc etc. neil's desert comment might just be because it's a biblical story. but I guess like any of his songs, there could be several interpretations.
