I never cease to be amazed how graceless some of the responses are on here. My point was that the Christmas market may actually favour records that wouldn't make good singles at other times of the year. And I'm not going to make my excuses and leave - nor am I going to dismiss other correspondents out of hand.

But what you are suggesting seems to have no grounding in reality. Christmas is for novelty records and i don't think this double A-side fits the bill.

Excuses is one of the best tracks on Fundamental, just like It Always Comes As A Surprise was one of the best tracks on Bilingual. But good tracks aren't necessarily good singles.

If they want a ballad single, they should go for Indefinite Leave To Remain. If they want an uptempo single, the only realistic good choice is The Sodom And Gomorrah Show.
