Who cares?
Singles exist to promote albums. Whatever the chart position, it has utterly FAILED to do this, unless putting people OFF buying the album is the goal.
Its the only song of its kind on Fundamental, it isnt even representative of the album. Even talking about it is annoying me.
It was a frankly ridiculous decision to release Numb as a single. I've said it all along, as have others who are more reasoned than most delusioned PSB fans. And on Sunday, and the Sunday afterwards when Fundamental will fail to re-chart, I and those like me will be proved correct.

I am writing the Pet Shops Boys off for the moment. They just make too many plainly stupid decisions
Harsh but I know where you're coming from. This is the least interested I've ever been in a new PSB release.

There is no way Fundamental will gain extra sales/ weeks on chart from Numb. Its nowhere to be seen on any prominent shelves in HMV Oxford St. And Concrete will be the retail attention grabber anyway (for a week at least).

i think the point i was trying to make is that although i hope it does well, im not sure it will. The thing about the song is that it has huge longevity possibilities due to the sentiment.

All the negativity isn't going to help matters is it?

The power of positive thinking never pushed a song up the charts.
Maybe we should get Chris De Burgh's healing hands on the case.

It looks as if the lucky people Stateside are enjoying the success of the Pet Shop Boys at the moment. While Neil & Chris are wooing audiences with their shows & music/book signings we are all here debating over Numb. At least we have something to talk about.
Numb has to be the poorest product of the boys' career, but hey, we have a great book, Dvd & live album to enjoy. America are enjoying their moment, & rightly so, of our very own best pop act!!!
Let's just hope we get a Top 30 hit out of it.

You were the one who was convinced we wouldn't get a 3rd single at all, remember?
Yet, I agree with you, regarding your opinion about Numb. It's not that they picked the worst possible song for a 3rd single (after two uptempo songs and Minimal failing to make impression, they had to try something different), but they ruined it. The radio-edit is horrible, CD1 is just not interesting enough to buy. Even for many PSB fans.
This is why I think Numb will land outside the UK Top 20, making a 4th single highly unlikely. Although there's one bizarre circumstance... Integral is a song with a particular theme, attached to an issue that will soon be discussed in UK politics. That *might* change the situation, although I wouldn't bet on it.

Have any of you considered that they might be obliged by contract to release Numb? I dunno, it's just a thought. It was nearly released back in 2003/4.
Another option for its release could be to cover the costs of the track. After all, Warren wouldn't have just given it away.

And what would you know anyway. Weren't you the one calling everyone "retards" as you
knew for a fact there was not going to be a 3rd single. Sorry to burst your over-inflated bubble but you don't know squat about anything.

Well, no need to debate this... let the facts speak for themselves.
When Numb fails to enter the top 20, and Fundamental doesnt even re-enter the top 200, I will be proved correct in my assertion that its a load of tripe which will do nothing for the PSB's or the album they are seeking to promote.
Lets just wait and see, shall we

I highly doubt whatever they release will bring Fundamental back into the charts.

if the album is still £3.99 in HMV and not selling then it needs something decent to shift those albums and Integral is the only song to do that. Maybe it will be a bit too late to release to coincide with the tour...

But #23 singles won't make money. The video, the distribution and making costs, the promotion and the marketing (as little as there is of it) will all take more than the meagre amount of cash that the singles will bring in. If PSB singles really made money, why didn't they then release more singles from Nightlife and Release?
