But Neil said that Release did 750k and it should be very safe to assume that Nightlife did much more than Release as they had a big hit in Europe with New York city boy and went gold in Germany within 2 or 3 weeks etc. So I actually believe in those figures but I'd be really surprised if 360k for Fundamental were accurate numbers...

Actually very good.
not really, Release has done 750,000 apparently and Nightlife did 1.2 million. Fundamental chart life is over, barring any unlikely revival, so it's gonna struggle to reach those figures
Release has sold 950.000 acording to Niel. Nightlife did sell 1.2 Million copies.

If the " Chart Life " of Fundamental is over, assuming no 4th single, this will have little or no effect on the longterm sales of Fundamental. After all Release had only 2 singles before its " Chart life " came to an end, and is now closing in on the 1 million mark.

Both Nightlife and Release did not reach there current sales level in the 1st year.

It has taken Nightlife close to 7 years to reach that 1.2 Million, and Release 4 years to get to 950.000. Anywhere from half to two thirds of the sales of each of those Albums were made after the end of their " Chart Life ". In both cases this means that hundereds of thousands of unites were sold after the end of their " Chart Life "

By the end of the of the Fundamental Touring in the States, Mexico and the UK ( early to mid 2007?) Fundamental will be somewhere between 500K to 700K unites sold. 3 to 4 years after that it will be around the1 Million mark.

I would say those numbers are a little low. My estimate for Funamental as of the moment would be closer to 450K, could be as high as 550k. But even at 360K it is selling at about the same as nightlife at the same point in its lifespan. These numbers are likely 4 or 5 weeks old and count only sales in the UK, US, Canada and Western Europe. The boys do very well in Asia and South America. But it is much harder to get sales figures from these regions.

A few years down the road it will be in the 1 Million range.

We might be surprised, Nightlife sold more copies in the states than it did in the UK.

PSB have been a fan base act since Bilingual ergo the majority of sales come early on in the albums 'life cycle' - thay haven't had an old track been used in a popular commercial, movie etc which reawakens interest in an old album with subsequent recharting and increased sales. A few thousand copies of both Release and Nightlife being sold every month would not amount to the hundreds of thousands of units you quote. Chances are the only PSB albums that still sell well are those released between 86-88 and Discography

no, thats units shipped

artists and record companies get paid for units shipped, not sold in stores (thats the retailers problem)

Fundamental has sold twice as many copies in the UK, for example, as Release did... and has almost certainly shipped more units worldwide

The figure for Release Neil gave is 750,000 not 950.

Whats your source on the 750,000? The 950,000 figure that I have is from a conversation between neil and a record executive ( as related to me by the exec ) about a year ago. It could be that both numbers are right, just being from different times?

I have to agree with you that Fundamental has shipped many more copies than Release. When Release came out I could find it only in one very large independent record store in my home town in the States. Not one other store had a copy.

With Fundamental it's another story. I have seen it in all four Wallmarts, the single BestBuy, the 2 Borders, the 2 Disc Excanges, the 2 Cat's and at both of the local malls in my hometown. In fact I have not seen a single CD store that does not have it! All of these locations also have the US version of Pop Art.
