Careers in music have very little to do with vocal talent (hello Madonna) and thankfully PSB have enough "character" to enjoy continued success.
Well said. I find many people with very powerful voices like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion or Barbara Streisand make incredibly boring music with little character.
Still, it's strange that a lot of pop singers get stick for their voices yet so many ROCK bands (especially the more indie ones) get away with having singers with horrific vocals.

Neil could read/sing the phone book to me and I'd die happy. who cares what those stupid x-factor/am. idol judges think anyway?

I love Neil's vocal. He is just fine the way he is. He is not trying to be an opera star or anything.

Neil has the best singing voice in the universe. And Chris has one too.

Such a shame, I have quite some respect for Henk Temming, who had to deal with Henk Westbroek for half of his life. He is an excellent producer and songwriter, who did some great work on Het Goede Doel. Especially the 15 minutes long "Met Open Ogen".

Neil's voice is distinct and thats the beauty. Sure he's nasal and I dont think, he can throw a power ballad ala Bolton(sic), but who wants him too ?!
I would like to think of his vocals as being moody ! you know..
detached (west end girls, always on my mind), lovey dovey (liberation, it comes as a surprise), earnest/sincere (rent*the new live version*, the night i fell in love, jealousy, nervously..), hopeful (go west..). On the surface there may be no huge distinction, but its all subtle and his vocals surely adds depth to the mood of the music/song.
I was hearing madonna's old tracks and how cringe worth was 'get into the groove' almost like a drowing cat. Even kylie's vocals has shown a lot of improvement and her live singing is simply stunning...amongst the best i think !

Chris has got more of a 'speaking voice' I'd
say ...
It was Neils voice in the first instance which
has cought me.

I think Neil would be the first to admit that he doesn't have the strongest voice, particularly live. He does have a very distinctive voice though, making psb records instantly recognisable. You don't need a brilliant voice to be a great pop star anyway - pop music is about so much more than that.

It's true. Being a pop star doesn't mean you must have a powerful voice like opera singers. And Neil is not a diva after all.
About Neil's singing live, I know he's quite weak at it but still fine to me. I only wonder why he used to (and now sometimes) lipsync a lot. I mean he does not need to do that. When he sings live, he may not be perfect but still sounds very nice.

Neil cannot sing, but his vocal is amazing (waits for the backlash from die-hard PSB nutcases lol)

he can definitely sing. I do think studio technology can make an adverage singer sound awesome but I dont believe you can take someone who cant sing period and make it sound good. you havw to have some natural singing abilities.you have to have that pleasing tone to the ears.
in any case it just bothers me that the guy made the comment for large audiences to hear.I mean, say it behind closed doors.

A vocalist isn't necessarily a singer

I agree with you. Chris' voice is more suitable for spoken words, but it is sooo really nice.

What a bullshit! Of course Neil can sing. I hope you didn't listen to that Neil.
