I do understand that for example copying original CDs is a different / illegal case, when only the original CD gave profit - when first sold - to the artist, not the copies.
But what is the difference between:
a) 10 people make their own recording of a song from the radio = 10 people have the radio recording
b) 1 person makes a recording of a song from the radio and makes a copy for other 9 people = 10 people have the radio recording
Why should anyone be blamed / warned etc. for putting up something that
everyone could have recorded legally (?) and for free from the radio? (Well of course not everyone literally is receiving BBC Radio, but that's only a side fact IMO.)
Please understand I don't want any bad argue, I'm just trying to put things in a different perspective and see why it actually is morally good or bad, when the result may be the same. But then again, it may still be illegal to even record from a radio, and my speculations are of no avail.
I could be wrong but it is illegal to record off of the radio. The radio staion pays for the right to play songs on the radio (PRS. MCPS in the UK)no matter how rare or readily available it is.
This means that PSB would recieve royalties for powerful friend even though it has never been comercially relased.
So if you were to recorded it and make copies for your friends you are stealing from the station (as they own the recording) and PSB (as they own the rights to the song) because they haven't given you permission to distribute it.

I can't remember why this wasn't included on Disco 3, like the other Peel tracks: Try It (I'm In Love With A Married Man), Somebody Else's Business and If Looks Could Kill. They probably just didn't like the end result of A Powerfull Friend enough?

SEB wasn't one of the Peel Session tracks. The four songs were 1. London (slightly different version) 2. Try it (basically the same as Disco3) 3. A Powerful Friend 4. If Looks... (much more under-produced version than what appears on Disco3).
A the time, a lot of people recorded the show and 'extracted' the songs, but they all had Peel talking over the begining or the end. After a couple of weeks, 'studio' versions of the Peel sessions emerged on the net that were the same tracks, but better sound quality with the begining and ends intact (as opposed to that version of APF with the a 'fade in').
Those of you who remember 10 Years of Being Boring know what I'm talking about...

i don't know if this is still the case but you could record off the TV and radio for personal use but you had to record over/erase recording after a couple of weeks or thereabouts
