It looks ace!
I've never really been into games that much, I just play on my brothers. I might get an X-Box 360 though...

The game is set in New York and is apparently more realistic. You cannot just spray your car etc and the police are then baffled. They are onto you if you pinch a car and know where you are as well, as all the streets are named.

yeah saw the new trailer it does look fantastic. the police were my only issue with the GTA series as they always seemd to know where you were even if you lost them in a car chase.
I kinda like the idea of being able to lose em along with those freakin helicopters without having to locate stars to downgrade your police wanted list status.
it will be fun to cruise around NYC and be able to do the mugging for once instead of being on the recieving end though.

That's why I always have a rocket-launcher in my arsenal.

It does indeed live upto the hype and as a bonus, the multi-player is fantastic as well; something I wasn't expecting, really. My only grumble is the actual multi-player frontend is rather basic and functional and there's no lobby either.

I bought it the other day, having hunted for ages to find it (at a reasonable price).
Not played too many missions yet, but it's looking good. I have to say that some of the things that are different are quite disconcerting if you're a GTA old timer, used to the ways of previous games.
A couple of minor complaints - the map is too difficult to see properly. They need to make it bigger or pick it out more clearly. No screen adjustment option means that the extreme right and left edges of the picture go over the edge of my TV screen. Also, is it just me or does night-time seem to last ages and daylight flash by? Seems so much is done in the dark in this game, and the more realistic graphics mean that it is more difficult to play in the night time hours of the game.
I notice 1.1 is already released for PS3. It made me download the update before it would let me play tonight.
Oh, one more point - this quality of graphics and sound are crying out for a sprawling and varied San Andreas type map. Shame we're cooped up in Liberty City then. I'm sure GTA5 or whatever the next game is called will be on a much bigger map.

I also meant to say - the music on every radio station is completely and utterly rubbish, and it's amazing how much that spoils things given Vice City / Stories and it's 80's sound track and the 80's radio stations on GTAIII and Liberty City stories. Even San Andreas had some better music than this, and that's saying something. So far I have only heard
one track that I like.
It would be nice to be able to create a custom station in a similar fashion to San Andreas on the PC if that isn't already possible (not looked!).

I love san andreas. you can really open up when your in the car on those long highways. it makes car chases with the police a blast.
plus there was like 3 different huge citys each with their own looks in san andreas.
I have heard its kinda cluttered in the new one with not so much chance for chases and for me that was always the most fun part.
kinda dissapopinting to hear its not that large as it will probably be like 4 years till the next one.

Yes, the radio stations are, by and large, utter rubbish compared with the last 2 games. Far too much emphasis on rap music for my liking and not nearly enough variety.
If you're playing on a HDTV I'd highly recommend going into the menu settings and fiddling with the various in-game brightness/saturation settings as it makes a huge difference, particularly when its nightime in-game. The standard settings are a bit too dull and dark otherwise.
Although, it does lacks the scope of GTA:SA there are places where you can put your foot down, the various bridges and the Time Square recreation spring to mind.
The problem I had with San Andreas was that is a bit too overwhelming in size and scope; I think I finished the game about a year and half later. This time around, I'm glad that GTA4 is more condensed and scaled down.

The few gripes i have are similar to Steve's. It's too dark, too often. The music is poor, although the eins zwei drei tune is funny. I also find your character doesn't move as smoothly. You seem to drift to one side, like you have St Vitus Dance. Still a top game though. It would have been really difficult to beat the last two games, especially Vice City.

I'll wait a year until it's released on a proper machine
Seriously though, the PC versions are always good conversions with the bugs generally ironed out. And you can look up at the sky! No more character-in-a-neck-brace.
