I agree. That's why bands like The Beatles, The Kinks, Midnight Oil and - Pet Shop Boys - are among my favourites; they were/are constantly changing their sound so that every new album is different to the one before. And in many cases, Beatles and Midnight Oil in particular, the albums themselves are very varied with many different kinds of songs. "The White Album", need I say more? I really wonder what people refer to when they talk about "Beatles influences" when hearing that album!

I wouldn't be such a big fan of a band if they had the same style on record after record. For example New Order, everything they do sounds the same! Erasure, though I like them, have never really updated their sound since 1985. Status Quo of course, hence the name...

I love bands with a varied, artistic output of music. Pet Shop Boys belong to that category, definitely.

But the White Album does sound like The Beatles.

If it didn't then it wouldn't actually exist.

I talked about musical variety and innovation, and Midnight Oil are a prime example of a band possessing those qualities; listen to their 1982 album 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 and you will understand what I mean!
