It's made even more mysterious by the fact that they did it immediately after their (arguably) best songwriting stretch: Very, Relentless and the b-sides to Can you forgive her?, Go West & I wouldn't normally do this kind of thing are an absolutely incredible bunch of songs. I think it was just a bit of fun in the studio and not meant to be taken seriously - it's not supposed to be part of their body of work, and hense their name isn't attached to it.
Perhaps they should just have kept it as a fan club freebie, like their Christmas single.
