Anyone know why out of the four quakes I can remember over here, three of them were in the middle of the night? Is there any reason for that, or is it just co-incidence?

I think you often don`t notice smaller earthquakes during the daytime because you`re out and about. Of all the many earthquakes I have felt while in Japan, most have been while I was in bed.

um, when I was a kid living at home way back when I was awoken early in the morning by the sound of our pet parakeets going sh**thouse in their cage squawkin and flapping their wings. about 20 seconds after, a quake hit.

Funny you should say that, I distinctly remember hearing the birds outside making quite a din as the earthquake got going. At 12:58am in the morning they're usually asleep too, so they definitely knew about it too!
