Well, the 3rd part was probably the best and it more or less makes sense now!
I was just reading that there could well be a new Barrie anyway!

I'm a big RD fan too. It's a shame they didn't do a movie a few years back to tie up the loose ends.
The Coronation Street thing was just silly. I bought all the other DVD releases when they came out but I'll think I'll wait until this 3-parter hits the bargain bin or buy it off ebay for a few quid. Shame.

I thought the first part was kind of weak, but I enjoyed the other two parts despite their flaws. Better than Series 8 at least.

No laughter track - somehow not right without it.
Yes, it was like the extended Series 7 episodes. It doesn't work.
Series 7 was slow in places, 8 got better again and then the special dropped a lot, it did get better, but nothing side-splitting.
I have downloaded it for now, it may seem better in sequence. I noticed someone has uploaded another version which they've added a laughter track themselves.
Red Dwarf ship - how come it is perfectly intact given how the last series ended (ship being eaten away by acid-y stuff).
Rimmer - how come he is a hologram again?
If you watch the alternate ending on the DVD, then it does kind of make sense. It's a shame they showed the one they did.

Alternate ending.
OK, so no Christine Kochanski (sp?), but where's Holly?
Christine Kochanski - she does make a brief appearance in our world, I liked the way Red Dwarf is real and it is our world that is fiction. It doesn't quite work without some 'Holly' intervention here and there.
Definitely huge holes in the plot since the last time we saw them and to have no explanation seems a little strange...
Yes, that is a pity. I think I accept now that Red Dwarf does have holes throughout - like uniforms etc.

Given that the non-existent Series 9 and 10 were mentioned by characters in the "real" world, I guess we're supposed to assume a lot of stuff happened in those two series which put them in the position they were at the start of the special.

I have to watch it again, but yes, I think the idea is it allows for two series to be made should it be required.
