But iTunes will allow you to put it in the song title. That (and other illegal-for-filename characters) get converted to an underscore in the filename, but iTunes will display whatever you originally entered.

Not sure I follow you, but I use iTunes solely for putting songs on my iPod. For making MP3's I use CDex and for listening to MP3's I use Winamp.

I think songs are capitalized in general so that they can be instantly recognized as song titles when they are mentioned in magazine articles etc.

Yes, that might be a reason but I think it's better to have the title in quotations marks anyway. I can't understand why all British/American magazines don't do that. What if a one-word title starts a meaning? Not very easy to see the title then! Please always write a song title within ' ' or " " (or
italicize it)!
This is a bad example, but I hope you get my point:
Pandemonium is heaven.
"Pandemonium" is heaven. - oh, the
song is heaven!
