Re: Cooler Than Me - Is It The New PSB Single?
There are some real issues here. One being, that obviously the title is a take on Hurts - The New PSB? It was not meant to be literal, any numbskull can see that. Second, here we go again with the justifications about my posts. That I've been paid to post stuff from this guy. The truth? The albums not very good, though he has a couple other interesting things. I think the single is incredibly similar to the PRODUCTION and SOUND of tracks on YES such as Pandy and Love Etc especially. That is all. You all get so super upset at this post; it's just rediculous. I hope it turns out Gigamesh is actually Xenomania and you all get to eat your words. Sorry to be bitchy, but if you don't hear the connextion, just say so, instead of making these claims about me, my motivations, and how my thread is pointless. Perhaps it would have been better in the off topic, but it is on topic insofar as the issue involves Pet Shop Boys similarity, and the Hurts post previous to it was similar (though I know that everyone thinks that Hurts is so very similar to PSB).
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'

I guess you could try really hard to imagine this sounds anything like PSB, as long as you really hate and disrespect PSB.

I know what FOF means. sometimes I have heard a song from an artist that seems the farthest thing from the PSB yet somehow I hear a slight shade of the PSB in it somehow.
I remembering hearing john lennons "grow old with me" and though, thats a PSB piano ballad.
yet I doubt anyone would agree.but I hear a bit of your funny uncle in there.

I could totally hear Neil sing that Lennon song. He'd do a great super sad sounding version. And I'm not saying this because glenn is one of the only people backing me up here.

Re: Cooler Than Me - Is It The New PSB Single?
In September 2002 I asked Neil if he thought they should cover Legs by ZZ Top since they were in their rock phase, and that song was kind of asking for a hi-NRG cover like Streets. He said he always wanted to cover Rough Boy. Does anyone thing that would have been a good idea?

FoF, my only problem is that you're posting OT on Pet Shop Boys Discussion, but perhaps the mods can move it.

I find these threads with irritating headlines very annoying by now.Palpatine wrote:It hardly deserves its own thread.

Do you really need me to spell out the difference between a thread analysing the self-evident similarities between a nascent pop duo and the definitive pop duo and your thread randomly comparing Love etc with something you recently dug out of your backside?FirthofForth wrote:Off Topic. Please move.

Re: Hurts- the new PSB?
My brother used to live a block away from Jeffery Dahmer. He wasn't had for lunch though.
Sure, one is a duo, one isn't. But I made clear that it's the production and sound that is at issue with Mike Posner. I think I spelt it out for you already. And as far as digging it out my backside, that track is on my local top 40 station every day. In fact, it does have something very in common with PSB; it went number one on the dance chart here. I remain shocked that others can not hear the similarity. And I hold that my post was entirely reasonable given then similarity I, and a couple others I've talked to hear. What we have in this forum is elitism. Half or more of posters here love Hurts, so it's all fine and well. But what if I posted a thread that Modern Talking were and have always been similar/the new PSB? Everyone would shuff it off because everyone (including myself) thinks Modern Talking a bit (or more than a bit) crap.Do you really need me to spell out the difference between a thread analysing the self-evident similarities between a nascent pop duo and the definitive pop duo and your thread randomly comparing Love etc with something you recently dug out of your backside?

Re: Hurts- the new PSB?
In general, I make a point of not getting into a battle of wits with an unarmed man, but I digress...
The Hurts thread is on-topic because it is currently a fact that many media outlets and pop commentators have recognised at least superficial striking similarities between Hurts and Pet Shop Boys. The discussion is on-topic because it directly concerns Pet Shop Boys and whether or not those similarities move beyond elements of presentation and imagery. It is on-topic because it is perhaps the most significant PSB-related news of the moment in the interregnum between the near-end of the tour and the start of the ballet. It has produced some excellent PSB-related analysis.
Your thread, meanwhile, is a spurious personal observation that has no wider significance than the, no doubt, myriad other keen insights that you ponder whilst sitting on the toilet.
To address your feeble point about forum elitism and "half of the forum" loving Hurts and that love justifying the Hurts thread's appearance on the main board, most of the comment in the Hurts thread is negative towards them. Even those expressing less than complementary things about them (me included) can see why that thread is entirely appropriate on the main board.
While both of these threads might be appropriately located in the Off-Topic forum, only one would be equally appropriately located on the main board.
