IMO, i'm not sure online stores are mainly responsible for places like HMV and Virgin shutting down. First of all, they need to take responsibilty themselves by getting their prices in order but supermarkets like Asda and Tesco, sell cd's and DVD's. You can go shopping to a supermarket and more or less buy everything you need under one roof.

HMV have been milking the public for far too long. That they're now a direction-less shambles does not disappoint me.

Nottingham, where I live, has gone from three shops to one in the last few months.

Waterstones (owned by HMV) is taking a hit too:

Had a feeling the small one in plymouth would go...we have a larger hmv in the shopping centre.

We also have two Waterstones so I can see one of the branches being closed!

I dont miss the big chains, I like the little corner stores opened by youngish alternative types.walls peppered with all sorts of memorabilia,always some sort of punk group playing on the soundsystem.
theres a little store near me that always has the rare stuff, the oddities,with dudes working there have weird haircuts and rings in their noses and ears.but they know everything about everything.

How are you supposed to find anything in that shit-hole?

how do you find anything there?! do you ask a prospector why does he look for gold in some dirty little river? do you ask a deep sea diver how do they find artifacts in sunken ships? do you ask homicide detectives how do they bother finding evidence at a messy crime scene? do you ask a chef why do they bother trying to bring out the most flavors of some dish?

It's their jobs. Simples...

If i go into a shop, i expect to find things pretty easily. You don't mind looking but to find anything in that shambles, you would need a qualified team of archiologists. It's a death trap as well as a hovel.

lol! I never really felt like indiana jones there. its a sort of organized chaos. all the artists are in alphabetical order and all that in the slots of a particular group. its just that when it comes to every CD actually being in the slot or on top of the pile, all bets are off.
