Yes, but the damage has been done by the first debate. I doubt that this debate will change all that much. This is now a 50/50 race.York Minster wrote:@seconddebate well, that was better then

Re: Who Won The Debate?
It's tight, but it's not really 50/50. I'd put 3 to 1 money on Obama. He still has the electoral college lead in states like Ohio. Romney mostly shored up unexcited Republicans with the first debate. The first debate is out of the news cycle. People forget oh so quickly. The truth is it will likely come down to 534 votes in Wisconsin, in favor of Obama. Perhaps with a popular vote in favor of Romney by 57,000 votes. Reverse 2000.BlueSwan wrote:Yes, but the damage has been done by the first debate. I doubt that this debate will change all that much. Re: Who Won The Debate?
Eh what? You state that Obama is a 3 to 1 favourite and THEN you state that he's probably losing the popular vote to Romney and only wins Wisconsin by 534 votes. How is THAT not a 50/50 election?York Minster wrote:It's tight, but it's not really 50/50. I'd put 3 to 1 money on Obama. He still has the electoral college lead in states like Ohio. Re: Who Won The Debate?
So Obama won the third and final debate as well. The second did NOT give him any bounce in the polls whatsoever and I think this third one probably won't either.
This is awfully close and I'm very much fearing that Romney will end up winning it. A 50/50 race for now.

I think it would be quite funny if an actual mannequin becomes President. Anyway Obama still has a number of cards up his sleeve.....

Re: Who Won The Debate?
My fear is that it's so close that it will be a replay of the 2000 election, except with race as a major factor. If that happens major American cities will probably explode in waves of violence. I wouldn't want to be in Chicago, Detroit, LA, NYC, etc. if Obama loses and all the homies decide to chimp out 'cuz a brutha lost.BlueSwan wrote:So Obama won the third and final debate as well. Re: Who Won The Debate?
The reason I said Obama had a better chance is he leads in the enough of the swing states. Yes, it is dead even in the popular vote, a vote that matters not at all. No one can predict the last two weeks and what they will bring. And, since I made that post, Obama has lost a bit of ground in some key states. But he still leads the overall electoral map: http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/201 ... ctoral-map It really comes down to holding the lead in Ohio. Obama has had a 4 point lead there, and it's down to two. If he wins Ohio, it would be very difficult for Romney to win.
But I do agree it looks like a scary "2000 election" could happen. I dislike Romney more than ever. My opinion many months ago was: Outside of him repealing the ACA (Obamacare) I thought he wouldn't do that much damage as president. But he really is a shapeshifter, and he has done is goddamnest to move to the middle in these debates. Obama plays politics and tells lies, but not like Romney does. It's hard to really know what a Romney in office would really do.

No, I think Romney is pretty damn smart. He knows what's he's doing too well to be an automaton.Palpatine wrote:Romney's a robot.

Re: Who Won The Debate?
The chances for Obama to win look better and better. Ohio is staying strong for him despite Sandy, and Romney's momentum in the polls has gone. Obama is even up in the poll of polls. Of course, it all does come to voter turnout.

Re: Who Won The Debate?
Exactly, turnout is key. The state polls are looking pretty good, but if the dems aren't turning up, Romney could still win this.York Minster wrote:The chances for Obama to win look better and better. Re: Who Won The Debate?
Y'all acting so shook. This has been a done deal for over a month now. I'll take care of MN for you, York's got WI down, and any boarders in remaining swing states will get it done.

Hello my name is Neil Tennant and I'm Chris Lowe and we're of the Pet Shop Boys.
Re: Who Won The Debate?
Regardless of which candidate wins, the winners will be big money, political lobbyists, the appeased mega-rich, corporate interests. The losers? The usual - the poor, the idealistic, the environment, etc. Billions are spent on electoral campaigns in the US, compared to just hundreds of thousands in the UK. In fact there's a legal cap on the amounts that can be spent over here.
It's all about lobbying, influence and control of the media. How many Americans know what the really important issues are anyway? With Fox news being the vast leviathan it is, we have a neo-con news agenda brainwashing all but the minority. You only have to go online to see how many people in the US are unaware of what their government has been doing overseas since the 50s and what a betrayal of the original constitution we now have.
And, no, these politicians don't come from the people. They invariably come from money and families with money, just like the Cameron crop in the UK. Their fake humility and folksy I'm just an average ordinary Joe bullshit is nothing more than a ploy to get the votes they need. Funny how people fall for it every time. So, the analogy of them falling from outer space is actually more apt. Unfortunately the reality is they're not, so we can't dissect them, obtain their secrets and send them back.
