Well, it started badly and went down from there. I'm amazed at how middle-aged this album feels. It's not as if they've got a gifted lyricist to get away with any "maturity" in the music. This is Daft Punk - it's supposed to be moronic. Let's face it, Chic, great as they were, are positively antediluvian in pop terms. Nothing wrong with that, but to listen to some reviewers you'd imagine Nile Rodgers was the personification of the Second Coming rather than the producer of something your great uncle would find slow. This is about as cutting edge as a Rolls Royce record. The biggest disappointment was Giorgio by Moroder, which more accurately could be titled Mediocrity by Numbers. It's like listening to a monologue by Sepp Blatter. I'm going to say it: they're not a patch on Air.

It's truly amazing what a few helmets and a vocoder can do.

New Daft Punk is generic crap, really. All that hype for nothing. PSB have a lot more soul even in their most banging songs (e.g. Euroboy) or at least something "tangible", some substance, that does something for me. My #1 album of the year is Depeche Mode's Delta Machine (they're my favourite band, sorry if this is a wrong thing to say on a PSB forum) but I think it'll have a strong strong contender in PSB's Electric when it comes out, and the Boys also beat my beloved DM in terms of hype when it comes to the concert (although I doubt I'll see them come to Zagreb or somewhere near, hope they do because I Get Excited is being played *drool*).

Anyway, that was my first post on here, hope I'll fit into the PSB community.

Well I do cut Daft some slack on the merits of doing the album they wanted to do and making it quite artistic. Rather than the album party shallows want.

It has some great moments.

But as Drico mentions, the Giorgio track falls tragically short. And is a hint to me there is less deliberate Art here, and more meandering.

now,why would andrew dawson say that. I will never understand the need to be bitchy. is it because dawson is on the side of the PSB having worked with them, and it irritates him that one duo...daft punk...seems to be riding on a sort of wave of interest and the other duo PSB ...are sort of struggling commercially and with not as much fanfare?
working with all those rappers must have made an impression on his personality.

Well maybe Andrew Dawson is just put off by all the media hype surrounding the release of such a mediocre, dull album. I usually don't post negative things about music on my Facebook page, but I barely contained myself earlier today from not posting a negative comment about new Daft Punk album.

Yes the media spin around DP seems to be a detraction.

Daft probably even released an unexpectedly difficult album to shake that off a bit.

I do like the DP guys. They are romantics.

in the quality sense. get lucky is superb but the rest of the album meanders around it. axis and vocal tell me that 'electric' will show them how its done.

Fair enough, so long as reviewers compare Daft Punk with the Boys then it's all good publicity.

They deserve some thumbs up, the album is nice for what it is.

But really, this is a very high summary on Wikipedia. Too high.

Totally agree. They're talented but by no means groundbreaking in the bigger scheme of electronic music.
If they're influential it's only because they're talented at repackaging past influences to an unknowing audience.

In "Give life back to music" at 3:30 the song looks like the piece from The End Of The World where Neil sings "At midnight in desperation imagine total teenage destruction".
