It's not a bad track, but the lyrics are, yet again, primary school remedial class level. Did Andy write many of Erasure's 1980s hits? I don't expect Keats when listening to Erasure, but I don't recall the 80s stuff as being quite so risibly offensive. Take the first verse - is he really trying to rhyme "on" with "silhouette"? Don't answer that: it's clear Andy has dispensed with the basic concept of rhyming. This is lyricism a la brain injury.

I think Erasure have had many tremendous pop singles over the years, but the last one I got any modicum of pleasure from was I could fall in love with you. That's what, nearly 15 years ago?

Drico.

Greetings,

Yes, things tailed off pretty quickly for Erasure after the impressive Nightbird album and have never really picked back up.

Similarly here, the opening instrumental stanza is promising, but once Andy opens its mouth the whole thing is degraded beyond repair, and Vince doesn't have enough tricks left in the tank to offset that.

The cringe-factor is just way too high here on this track - the lyrics and the whoa-s are just terrible. Another completely forgettable Erasure single...

Retro. :)

It's been a while since I saw Erasure live after having seen them on pretty much every tour for years so I finally decided to get tix again after they announced their US tour. Going to see them in Los Angeles.

I was waiting for the chorus to happen and then realised I’d missed it.
It’s just more plinkyplonk erasure by numbers. This is the band that wrote A Little Respect. Blue Savannah. The Circus. Hideaway. Stop! Always. Love To Hate You. Ship Of Fools.

I gave The Neon another listen yesterday and apart from Nerves Of Steel, nothing stands out. It all sounds as if it were recorded in 1992.

There's some decent records on their last few albums but what I find annoying about Erasure now, is when Andy starts to sing. It's become a bit grating. The new song sounded decent at the beginning as well

Just listened to the new Neon EP tracks on Spotify. It’s all very “meh”. Sound like unused b-sides.

Although I quite like “Come On Baby” Nice tune, and Andy sounds in good vocal form. Bought the cd ep.
