I think it's beautiful. Interesting to hear Neil's demo vocals here - obviously it's quite rough and ready, but he's singing with passion, and there's an interesting edge to his voice which we don't usually hear.
Or maybe he just had a cold.
Well said. Quite a raw and emotional delivery near the end. You can hear the passion. x

It is what it is. It's more an statement from the point of view of Putin (similar to The Dictator Decides) with the typical irony of PSB than a relevant piece of music. That's why they put on the net almost without any kind of announcement. I don't think is going to be released on an album.
Anyway, it's nice to listen something new from them.

Given that video appears to use treated footage of the new statue of Stalin just 400 metres from a memorial to his victims which the PSB official site posted about on 3rd February it would seem that this demo has written quickly in reaction to that. Clearly just a guide vocal and simple outline piano block chords, it would suit a lush orchestral arrangement.

Now that I've spent more time with it, Neil had something to say, yet I feel had it been properly recorded it might have landed better.
and at certain parts I expect neil to break out singing Barbara Streisands "the rose" as it sounds like he is going to sing, "some say love it is a river" lol

That would be Bette Midler’s “The Rose”!

I found it quite beautiful. More a critique of Putin than of Russia.

Well this is just wonderful. I'm up for a whole album of this from them. Gorgeous and thoughtful, exactly what Pet Shop Boys should always be. And they gave it to us for free!

I think I would be right in saying that this is the first time they’ve ever released a demo of new material ahead of its proper release? It seems clear that they want to comment on what’s going on without waiting about a year for the touring cycle to finish and the album to be done.

As a demo it is a wonderful track and would be a fantastic closing track on an album

Beautiful song!
Does this also mean they are recording a new album...?
