Got to love this site adding song titles unnecessarily. Maybe short hand for "I.D.K" should be changed (IDKW maybe?) so when we actually want to use the short form when all we want to say is "I don't know" in a sentence all we have to do is type I.D.K.

Just noticed that T. Rex aren't on this list and M People are. Jesus wept. I can only assume it's because they consider Marc to be a solo performer, even though he wasn't.

Also, Slade are absent too (six number one singles). Must be like the Premier League and football starting in 1992.

Queen. The literal face of corporate rock. While other bands and acts went as far as recording a song called “I ain’t gonna play Sun City”, Queen happily took the money, played over there many times to a white or segregated audience. And don’t even get me started on how little Freddie Mercury did for AIDS charities and awareness whilst alive.

Freddie was a decadent, debauched show-off, with few principles other than self-gratification. Like the Bishop of Bath and Wells he wanted to do anything to anything. When it all caught up with him he was martyred and it became illegal to not think Queen were GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME PLC. Roger Taylor and Brian May have spent the past thirty years undoing their legacy anyway.

I know historicaly with these polls, Stones are always up there with the Beatles, and I may be proved to be completely wrong, but my thinking was that you can use all 5 votes on 1 act and that will mean that all Take That / Coldplay / Oasis fans will do the same as we have and stick all on them in one go, and their fan bases are huge !

I love polls and list. I try to ignore the fact it’s reductive, commercially driven, and compartmentalised; Instead, it’s a chance to discover what I’m possibly missing out on. The annual end of year best of polls usually contain one or two delightful surprises. However, what’s the value in being invited to choose from a number of shortlisted artists that predictably reflect the taste, attitude, and whimsical notions of the compliers? It’s not a question of who will be featured, simply the order in which they will be placed. No shortlist would have made it a little more interesting.

That was my point, but you made it better. Any poll taken from a pre chosen shortlist is immediately compromised if there are other options available that were overlooked or ignored.
